hi
I am looking for support to try and get on track once and for all. I am diabetic and am trying to low carb but finding it very difficult to get off the carbs.
I would like to have some support friends who are in the same situation to offer support to each other.....
thanks

Hi, Claymic, my name is Kimberlee. I am a type 2 diabetic and need to watch my carbs as well. I focus on eating my protein first during meals. I also avoid fluids during meals because they flush the food out of your stomach quickly and makes you eat more because you don't feel full...the feeling you get when you are full. Please feel free to add me.0

Hi Claymic and Smokey, I'm not diabetic but I am suffering from chronic lyme disease. I have one of two options at the moment, low carb to try and control inflammation and heal my immune system, or go on low dose antibiotics on and off for months out of each year. I opted for a low carb lifestyle. I'm pretty new to this, I just started a few weeks ago. Add me as a friend if you would like..

How can a type 2 diabetic lower high glucose levels, lower cholesterol, lower blood pressure, lose weight and not need to take drugs such as insulin and sulfonylureas which cause weight gain?
Here is the simple answer—a health-promoting eating style coupled with frequent exercise. The best diet for humans to live longer in superior health is also the best diet for reversing diabetes. It is not a low-carbohydrate diet or a low-fat diet; it is a high-nutrient (Nutritarian) diet, an eating style that focuses on the quality of carbohydrates, proteins, and fats; an eating style with a high micronutrient to calorie ratio.
When one eats a diet predominating in nature’s ideal foods—green vegetables, beans, mushrooms, onions, berries, eggplant, tomatoes, garlic, raw nuts and seeds, it becomes relatively easy to quickly shed excess pounds without hunger or deprivation, and bring glucose numbers back down into the non-diabetic range. My experience has demonstrated that those choosing to follow my nutritional recommendation will have their diabetes controlled astonishingly quickly even before they have lost most of their excess weight.
My new book, The End of Diabetes, outlines in detail my program for reversing (or preventing) type 2 diabetes with a Nutritarian eating style and exercise. If you have diabetes you must read it, then share what you learn with your doctor, and get ready to enjoy excellent health. This eating style is not just for type 2 diabetics – those with type 1 diabetes and gestational diabetes can make dramatic improvements in their health by following this program."

As a vegan himself, he's also aligned with PETA and other animal-activist groups and prefers to write articles rather than doing real research.
I'll listen to what the science-based evidence has to say rather than a vegan/peta-member that contributes to the Huffington Post, thanks.
... and the science is clear. A low-carbohydrate/high-fat dietary approach to treating diabetes is by far the best diet for diabetics. See http://www.nmsociety.org for more information and dozens of studies showing this to be true. I've yet to see a vegan post any studies showing vegan diets can control diabetes, let-alone 'reverse' or 'end' it. Low-Carb/High-fat, however, can completely control it.0 -
I too am a diabetic who is trying to control my sugar levels without medication or insulin. I have been doing low carb for right at a month and am already down 16 pounds. My A1C was 9.something and is now estimated at 7.5. The first 2 weeks were the hardest. I had many a melt down feeling like I couldn't eat anything I liked and that I was going to be miserable forever. I have slowly but surely found recipes that help fill those "cravings" for pizza and other favorite foods. I am still struggling with my love for potatoes, but am proud to say that I have not caved to that temptation. I would love to add you as a friend and have more of a support system in my new low carb life style.0
