Anyone else have an allotment?

Im finally getting mine turned over tonight :happy: So excited to finally get growing and the seedlings off my window sills!

Anyone know how many cals gardening burns or will i have to wait and see?

We have two small gardens planted. We've got tomatoes, yellow squash, zucchini, eggplant and basil.

Waiting for it to dry enough to turn the community garden. But I have seedlings planted and some of my backyard garden started with peas, Bok Choy, lettuce, and chamomile!

What the hell is an allotment??

I just tilled 2 acres for my sweet corn, carrots, green beans, onions, potatoes, yellow peppers, bok choi, and melons.

I have my own growing room down my basement complete with faucet hook ups for a hose and grow lights on a track lighting system so I can mimic the movement of the sun. It's great for wintering plants

I have one, well it's more of a boggy weed bed at the moment but it's work in progress, bad winter!! Last year I grew potatoes, onions, beans, strawberries, raspberries, pumpkins, tomatoes, peppers, corgettes, cabbages, blackberries, rhubarb, leeks, will try for the same this year and a few different bits

oh and if you have to dig as hard and for as long as I did it's a LOT of cals burnt! the general day to day weeding not so many

You'd probably have more luck with a group. Can't say I knew what you were talking about at first. I would love to grow my own veggies, but I lack the required green thumb.

I'm not sure what an allotment is, but I planted half my garden with cool weather crops last weekend. I gardened and dug and planted and hefted and hauled for 5 hours with a 1/2 hour break for lunch and burned over 1000 calories on Saturday.

Today, it's 80 degrees (Iowa, USA) and we're supposed to get snow on Thursday! LOL! All of my fruits are in the ground - grapes, raspberries, strawberries, apple trees and I'm prepared to cover them for the anticipated frost.

In about two weeks, I'll plant the rest of my garden with everything else for the summer. And I'm excited.

I don't have an allotment but I grow lots of stuff at home, some in raised beds, some straight in the ground, some in pots.
This year i'm growing:
Sweetcorn, Lettuces, Spring Onions, Beetroots, Khol Rahbi, Celeriac, Various French and Runner Beans, Broad Beans, Winter Squash, Cucumbers, Too many Tomato varieties, Peas!
Various fruits: Raspberries, Strawberries, Blueberries, Apples, Pears, Rhubarb, Goosberries, Red and Blackcurrants, Blackberries.

Think that's it....for now any way!

Everything is really behind here in the UK because of the long cold Spring, I hope it warms up soon so I can start planting out, my house looks like a garden center at the moment, every window sill has pots on!

I've got my own little patch right out front...and some pots on the front porch. Seedless cukes, yellow summer squash, zucchini, tomatoes, (every variety you can think of) hot peppers, sweet peppers, green beans, peas and strawberries. Whew! I'd also love to get a big old pot of mixed greens going for salads. I think I can keep them cool enough! I just LOVE growing season. I'm assuming that an allotment is a patch within a community garden?

A fellow UK grower! Last year we grew nothing, not even turned over because of the rain we had!

I know what you mean about plants being everywhere round the house, same here! I planted some onion sets out last week and will be getting down to plant our pots in the next few days.

I did 2 hours of onion planting, along with a little raking of the area and burnt around 800 cals! Bring on the rest :happy:

We love our allotment, i find it a great place to be just pottering about. I also love watching the wildlife it brings let alone the advantages of helping burn cals, eating better and much tastier fresh food.

We grow lots on our plot and like to try different things we wouldn't normally have/ try. I def prefer alot of things fresh out the ground where i wont touch it from a supermarket.

I don't have an allotment but I do have a tub with some mizuna. Starting some garlic chives too. And hopefully the tomatoes ir chilis will come back.
