How does My Fitness Pal calculate its numbers?

Is there a page on the site that explains where its recommended caloric intake comes from, where the protein/sugar/iron intake comes from, etc.?
I'm just curious. I'm a little nerdy and would like to read some of the professional articles on nutrition that at least this site deemed valuable.

I'm with you. I've been looking all over the site to ensure my iron is being calculated correctly being that I cannot take supplements and something like iron is calculated completely differently for men, woman, pregnancies, and those lactating. Are these general calculations or do they take into the account the personal information it asks for. General would be find, I'd just like to know how seriously to take these numbers.

All I know is that it uses the same equation any TDEE calculator uses minus exercise.0
