Going over protein?

Is it bad to go over your protein limit? This has been happening the last couple of days. I'm not going over by much (less than 10) but I'm not sure how this will effect me. Any ideas? Any suggestions about healthy, lower-protein food I can eat to help me get through the day?

do not worry about going over on protein. typically you should be aiming for 1g of protein per pound of lean body mass. some people say per pound of your whole weight. so i aim somewhere between 120-160g of protein a day. MFP usually sets it kinda low.

Unless you have a kidney or liver disease, I wouldn't worry about going over protein.

If you eat more protein, it's likely that you will feel fuller for longer and then eat less of other higher calorie foods. It will be helpful in your weight loss journey, especially if you are lifting weights. What I see on WebMD is that a typical man should get about 56g and a typical woman should get about 46g every day. The article also goes on to state that 30% of you calories coming from high protein foods is considered reasonable.

Oh, that's good information, thanks! So what MFP is allowing for me for the day is probably a little lower than it should be, judging from what you guys have said. Thank you :)

I've wondered this myself. I still wonder if going over on protein makes your kidneys work harder, regardless of whether or not you have kidney disease though and if that in itself is 'bad' for them.

Well, I hope not, because I have a tendency to go over protein quite often.

MFP's protein recommendation is the low end of the scale. Consider it a minimum. Personally mine is set for twice MFP's recommendation.
