Hey! I'm back with the healthy eating questions...

Here's a question for all of you. I have my diary open to everyone I believe. Take a look if you need to. I could really use your help. I am eating Kashi Go Lean. One for breakfast and one for lunch. It is high in carbs, but gives me the other nutrients that I need daily. I love the stuff, but was wondering if the carbs in it are good carbs or bad carbs. I would also like for you to look at my diary...just for today and see what you think. Any improvements, suggestions, encouragement that you can offer would be greatly appreciated. The reason for not going further back in my diary is that I have changed my eating as of well...today. I'm really trying to make things healthy by eating enough calories, eating the right food, and letting my body be satisfied with the food I'm feeding it. Thanks in advance.
Cayla
PS. I love you all for helping me with this. I'm such a beginner, but I am truly on a mission to get this right. I know it takes time and I'm going to fail, but it takes a few fails to get a victory right?
I am in the best mood today despite waking up minutes before I had to walk out the door!!!

Carbs are something that will land you in a big debate around here. Personally, I try to keep carbs very low, and try to make sure any carbs I do eat are as healthy as possible.
The biggest problem I see with your diary is all the sugar. Prepared breakfast cereals, even healthy ones like Kashi, are pretty high in sugar. They also don't tend to be very filling, which is going to set you up for overeating eventually.
I'm confused by a couple of your entries...are you eating the cereal and peanut butter by themselves, or is there milk on the cereal and bread under the peanut butter? Don't forget to track things like that. When I first started, I was really bad about logging cream and sweetener in my coffee-easily another hundred calories a day!
For myself, I'm finding it easier to eat more whole foods. I really limit processed foods, by which I mean anything with ingredients I either can't pronounce, or ingredients whose reason I don't understand. I don't eat fat-free or sugar-free stuff (with the exception of skim milk...just can't stand the taste of whole milk...but I like half and half in coffee. Weird, huh?) I make an effort to buy as little packaged food as possible-if it's in a package, it's been processed somehow.
If I remember you right from yesterday, you're an extremely picky eater. That's gonna present some challenges to you. I'm trying to think of a way to say this gently, but...well, just imagine it in a kind, loving tone:
Get over it. Learn to like fruits, veggies, and lean meats-especially fish. You are going to have a VERY hard time developing a healthy lifestyle without them.
My two cents, and again, I REALLY do not mean to be unkind.0 -
I'm eating the Kashi with peanut butter...just as posted. I post everything I eat.0

What is in a fruit chillers tube thingy?
I would have to agree with mrsbeck about the cereal and cereal bars. That's just too much of that kind of food. If you really have to be eating cereal then you should go for a high fiber, low sugar one like bran flakes. Then, you can add in your own raisins. The raisins don't have any added sugar like the ones in the raisin bran do...and the kashi, though it has lots of grains in it, is way too sugary. Maybe have some whole grain bread toast in the morning instead of the cereal? Or some oatmeal? The less processed the better.
If you are a really picky eater try picking one veggie that you can stomach and add a very small amount in some food (which would require something other than cereal for a meal) and gradually increase the amount of it in your food. You can start adding others as you can accept one.
Do you know how to cook or was yesterday just an out of the ordinary day? Because if you can cook, there are so many more options open to you.
Congrats on changing your diet and not being afraid to ask for help. The more you learn about the way foods work with your body, the more you may be wiling to try better for you foods.0 -
Fruit Chillers are 100% Fruit Frozen Popsicles. They use pear puree and other fruits. It does have added sugar which I guess I need to start watching. And thank you for the advice on the cereal. I'll have to make some wheat toast for breakfast. Thanks for the great idea. Oh and veggies mixed with something a little higher in calories...thanks!0

Just becasue something isn't cereal doesn't necessiarily mean it's got to be higher in calories. This website has recipes from Biggest Loser and the meals are generally between 200 - 400 calories. http://www.prevention.com/health/weight-loss/diets-getting-started/biggest-loser-diet/biggest-loser-recipes Now, if you want it to be higher in calories, you can always make that happen.
The thing about juice, which it sounds like the chiller basically are, is that it supplies a lot of the sugars from the fruit but pretty much none of the fiber so while it's not quite as bad as soda it is still much better to eat the actual fruit than to eat/drink something like that.0 -
I meant I'm needing to fill calories. So if I add a little something to my veggies that will fill up some of my calories. I'm lacking in calories.0
