Dorothy: "Where do I start?"
Glinda: "Well, it's always best to start at the beginning."
About 13.467 billion years ago, a cloud of interstellar gas and dust... oh, ok not that far back in the beginning.
(I have a singular sense of humor that often gets me into trouble).
I'm Jainarayan, an Italian-American guy, (with a Hindi name I sometimes go by) almost 56 y/o, 5'5" (after hanging by the neck all night) and 191 lbs. I was a powerlifter until lumbar and rotator cuff surgery ended that. Ironically the injuries were not from the gym, but from snow shoveling.
Anyway, I got seriously fat and lazy going up to 230 lbs. I started a well-known weight loss plan (names ok?) in Jan. 2012 and lost 30 lbs to date. I had lost about 10 lbs before that, so 40 lbs to date. I have another 25 to go, goal weight 165 lbs and body fat 14-16%. I cancelled the membership primarily because it's not designed for weight lifters. I found MFP on the recommendation of some of the guys at at well-known bodybuilding site I frequent.
I've been using the food tracker for a couple of weeks, and am learning to tweak it, and getting better at using it. I hope I can get to my goal with the help of this site and the members.

Thanks. From your avi you like you're doing a great job. I'll probably be using more features and "adding", if that's like "friending" and "following" at other sites. It's good motivation. I use the mobile app probably more than I use the on-line tracking.0

Im Bob just joined this hour. Im almost 77 and pretty old but my knees and feet are giving out and I need to take at least a 40 pound load off them. Is it possible to do this without giving up my red wine which I love?0

My MFP friends keep me motivated. Many days when I thought I'm skipping a workout because I'd rather play a mindless game of Candy Crush on FB - I check into MFP and see all of my friends work out progress and it motivates me to do it too. I joined MFP in March of 2011 and unfortunately gained back ½ of my weightloss when I quit coming here because I got lazy. This time around it's not so easy. I dropped 30# in about 3 months, now trying to get rid of my last 10# is at a turtles pace. I don't have patience! LOL0

Sounds good but with my arthritis and flat feet and bad rotator cuff my exercise doesn't burn calories like I used to.0

Welcome from a 55 year old who started at a similar place. I'm 5'7" on a good day and started at around 235 lbs 18 months ago. My trainer suggested I join MFP about 6 months ago, so he could track my foods easily. Currently at 186 with goal weight of 180 (maybe even 175).
Enjoy the site and have learned quite a bit from others here. I'm sure you will, too. Best of luck.0 -
Thanks. Wow, it seems we have similar stats and goals. I never thought it was possible because I fidoodled around so much and wasted time. This time I'm serious.0
