Stuck In A Rut

Hi there everyone,

I'm new to the MFP forums & thought I'd see if anyone has any advice or thoughts on how to help me get out of the rut I'm stuck in!

I started out at 194lbs last year and managed to get down to 169lb just before Christmas with the help of a personal trainer & felt fantastic!

Then...Christmas happened and my trainer moved away, which has now left me back up at 174lb and I've been stuck here since January!

I'm my own worst enemy as I'm full of good intentions but have such rubbish willpower! I'm also a vegetarian and a huge carboholic, I have tried sooo many times to cut the pasta down but it keeps sneaking it's way back in!

I've tried over the last few weeks to really get back on track but I'm finding it really hard on my own! I've started walking to work and back, which is 11k, so I have that 5 days a week. I also go to the gym 3 times a week but without my trainer I'm pretty much sticking to the cardio machines, I do 5k on the treadmill and a little bit on the stepper & cross trainer. My weight just seems to be sitting at the same level, it will go down a few pounds and them jump right back up again.

I guess I'm looking to see if anyone has any tasty & healthy vegetarian meal ideas to help me cut these carbs down! I also work in an office and find lunches hard to think up, I am getting bored of soups and keep slipping back to pasta (again!) or sandwiches.

Are there any handy tips anyone has found to help with their motivation levels? I know it's up to me to get this weight off but I find it so hard to stay motivated, especially when I seem to be making no progress!

Thanks :)

I normally use whole wheat or whole grain pastas which fill you up faster as far as working out at least you are doing it try and find another personal trainer to help keep you motivated and on track you have come this far and shouldn't stop as you are doing great. I am not veggitarian but there are a lot of recipes you can find on here and I use WebMD recipes and allrecipes with allrecipes I just do swap outs to make things healthier but they do have healthy recipes not sure about vegetarian but give it a try. the fact that you are posting this says that you are not giving up so YAY YOU!!!

Spaghetti squash and mashed cauliflower aren't really pasta "substitutes" but they stand in pretty well and provide a lot of bulk without a lot of calories.

Spachetti squash is awesome!! I made so much of it this winter for warm, filling meals. It's a great substitute for pasta. I don't even remember the last time I made acutal pasta noodles because I've been using squash.

I think just being on top of tracking, seeing those numbers, and really sticking to your guns is the best thing you can do for youself. You're the only one that can make that chage and stick to it.
I was the same way the last couple months. All last year I was doing SO good and then at the end of January I just all of a sudden quit, wasn't eating the greatest, and felt like crap. Then all of a sudden something just clicked, I jumped back into it, and I have no one else to thank but me :)

I do a lot of veggie wraps for lunch, instead of sandwiches. Or use those sandwich thins instead of bread and make veggie sandwiches.

Hi guys, thanks for all your answers :) I've had a look into Spaghetti Squash as I've never heard of it before, looks like it's really hard to get hold of over here in the UK :( I'll keep looking though! You never know where it might pop up!
