Aching Muscles - Workout?

Right, the last couple of days I've really pushed myself and today it caught up with me. I went to a boxercise class last night that combined boxing with circuit training and I feel every single muscle in my body aching. Don't get me wrong, I love the burn and I know the importance of resting and recovery so today I spent the day catching up with uni work and taking it easy (even though walking through the library and to and from student halls did hurt like hell), but I want to workout tomorrow since I missed out on today.
It doesn't have to be high impact cardio or intense strength training, but I was thinking of walking on the treadmill at an incline for half an hour and maybe a quick cycle on the stationary bike? Something to keep me going but nothing that will aggravate my muscle aches further...

Any thoughts?

Hi, I try to keep my workouts to 3 times a week, allows for recovery between sessions.
  • Yes! Look into "active recovery." Here's a start:

Just because you're sore, doesn't mean you have to be sedentary the next day.

I say your doing the right thing. I'm not a professional but have also read up a lot on rest and recovery. Even though you are "resting" you still need to move. I say a walk with an incline is perfect. You definitely need to listen to your body though and if those muscles are still aching you need to give them a break and work out some other muscles. I struggle with the same thing. I like to do total body workouts and never know how long I should be "resting", but rule of thumb is that if it still hurts then you need to work on a different muscle group. I also walk a lot on my "rest" days. So, I say go for it!

Thx for the advice. It's good to know I can still workout and burn calories even when I'm still recovering.
Unfortunately the weather hasn't been on my side for a nice outdoor walk but I'll be on that treadmill with an incline and have a good cycle while I'm at it - keep my muscles going
