PROBLEM!

I did a pretty brutal leg workout at about 3:30-5:00 today. at 6, i did cardio with my mom (i may not be much-but im a damn reliable workout buddy).
Well-turns out cardio today was HIIT plyo. like...kneel on the ground and spring into a one legged tuck jump sorts of things. fir an hour.
I was warmed up. i was stretched. a little tired, but ready to work.
at minute 50....something made sort of a rippy fabric noise.

in my left quad.

in the middle of a jump.

it didnt hurt, but i sat down after the set to get a drink. then, as i tried to stand for the following set of plyo pushups, it hurt.

i fell down.

hard.

now, i can neither straighten nor bend my leg without some pretty severe screaming from my quad.
im pretty sure i pulled it.

What do you guys use/do for pulled muscles?

Therapeutic massage :) You'd what they can do for you in just 20 mins if it is a specific zone.
I like to sit in a really hot bath and slowly work on it lightly.
Some anti inflammatory like Advil combined with an ice pack can also help

Ice is very important to help reduce the swelling. I would also take an ibuprofen if you can. To help with the swelling. Hopefully it is just a pull. If you have a foam roller or a tennis ball you can massage your leg with that. Feel better soon!

Get it checked by a doctor. I ripped a quad muscle length-wise running in boot camp. I ran on it for 7 days before the bruising surfaced and I went to medical. It kept re-ripping over the years. That was 20 yrs ago, I still have problems with it periodically. My dad ripped his across but his healed cleanly.

Epsom salt dissolved in hot bath water....Follow directions on Epsom salt package.....you can buy it at any drug or grocery store and it is very inexpensive....I would also stop exercise for a day or two to allow some muscle tissue repair...if after a couple days it still hurts as bad as it does now, then I would suggest a doctor visit...Good luck!

Please don't heat it. Please please please don't do a hot bath or massage or heat a strain if it just happened. Ice, compression, stay off it and rest. See a physician to determine the level of the strain and go from there. Heat and massage are not good for acute muscle strains.

Let it rest today and take an anti-inflamitory. SLOWLY stretch it each day, it sounds odd but really, a pulled muscle will heal and feel better if you carefully stretch it. And ice, no heat, ice will help take down the swelling and numb some of the pain. Then rest, I wouldn't do any intense leg workouts for the next week (except stretching of course)

    Feel better!

I want to caution against stretching a bit. If it doesn't hurt to do light stretching, that's fine but keep it light like what was said. If it hurts at all to stretch than avoid doing that. Some people think that you can "stretch out" a pull and that's false.
Yes, keep moving a bit if if the pain is minimal, but don't over do it or the strain will take longer to heal. You can do something called quad sets a few minutes every hour (a quad set is just a tightening of the muscle--no movement. So sit with your legs straight and just tighten isometrically).
