Too much fiber?

Can you really get too much fiber? My doctor told me to up my fiber and I've been trying to do that. On my food diary it has my fiber goal and I always exceed that but when I do it goes into the red and has a little negative sign as if it's something bad like sugar.
Is there such a thing as too much fiber?

Red doesn't mean bad, just there to get your attention0

The fiber goal is set low on mfp, you should be aiming for at least 25 grams a day, if not 30 or more. Just make sure you balance it with enough water and fat so that your pipes are lubricated enough and you don't back your digestive system up. Everything will get stuck otherwise, and that's not cute haha0

I don't think so! I eat anywhere from 30-50 grams a day and feel fantastic! The trick is to drink much more water. I have any where from 10-14 glasses a day or else your regret it later in the bathroom, lol
P.S but don't fall for all those highly processed products that advertise themselves as a good source of fiber. The best source will forever be fresh fruit, veggies, and nuts!0 -
yes, you can go too high... you won't absorb your food properly and will probably have diarrhea.
I aim for 30g/day.... But don't worry too much, until you have the brown stuff dribbling down your legs.0 -
Women should be getting around 25 grams a day. MFP sets it really low for some reason. Anyway, I've heard you might get gassy if you go too high, but it should be hard to get to a level that's that high. If you feel fine, don't worry about it too much.0

Most widely accepted is 25 - 30 g for women and 35-45g for men. From my understanding, if you have a protein macro set higher than 40% of your nutrition plan than you could even go higher without ill eeffacts.0 -
Yes, you can. I haven't eaten wheat for over a year now due to allergies, so I don't eat as much fiber as I used to. I ate a little over 1/2 cup of refried beans with my lunch yesterday and I was later bloated to the point where it was painful.
I'd recommend upping fiber gradually, but don't go overboard with it. Beans and bulgur wheat (a type of hot breakfast cereal) are both excellent natural sources that will help you feel fuller longer.0
