Who takes a rest day and what do you do on a rest day?
In the beginning of my weight loss I did not take a rest day at all, but then I did the live fit program and I kinda started to take a rest day, but when I quite that I started working out every day.
Now I'm doing another workout program and it recommends rest days, but I don't know what to do should I really not do any thing at all dealing with working out or can I go for an hour walk on a tread mill?
Also do you eat your recommend calories, or do you eat a little bit more and go over?

I take a rest day on Sundays because that is our "family" day, we spend the day with in-laws and what not so working out doesn't "fit" in on Sunday. As far as calories, on Sundays I try really hard to stay under by 100-200, just because i'm crazy and that makes sense in my head.0

There is no way I could do that, but that sounds like a goal that would make you lose weight for sure.0

I usually have a rest day on sunday or monday. I exceed my calories by a fair amount. To make up for that, I try to go under more than needed one or two other days in the week. Basically, I work on an extra deficit until sunday and then it evens out.0

I workout six days per week. On work day, I wake up at 5:15am to get my workout in. Monday is my rest day so I can ease myself into the workweek. On my rest day, I don't do any exercise on purpose. It am a firm believer in rest days. I think they are as important as doing the exercise. It is my day to mend.0

I understand your feeling of not wanting to take a rest day...but early on in my fitness journey I decided that if the experts that put together the programs I am using say to take a rest day, then they know what they are talking about and I should follow it.
Rest day should be a time to let your muscles REST. I think it is okay to take a stroll or something leisurely...but nothing that puts stress on your body....its supposed to be resting
I try to keep my caloric intake lower on rest days...but like an earlier poster said, it will even out over the week...just don't go really overboard on rest day.

I occasionally take active rest days, where I go for a walk or bike ride without trying to better my time or just stretch or do light yoga.0

While I like rest days, I also like rest weeks.

today happens to be my rest day. i may go over i may not it just depends on what will be for dinner tonight. i don't plan my dinners so i can't tell you what i'm going to have. my rest days vary - whatever day i do strength training at lunch then run that night the next day is rest day.0 -
I take rest days.
I recover.
Depending on the day, I chill out or I do my regular routine. I watch an extra hour of television (since I don't have to use that hour on the gym that day). I log in my food. On some rest days, I eat more than usual depending on how hard I worked out the previous day. Some days require more calories for my body to get through the day. I may or may not take naps. I may or may not hang out with my friends.
My favorite rest day is Sunday because I get the house all to myself so I blast up some music and dance around like a maniac...but shh, don't tell anyone.0 -
I've struggled with the concept of rest days for years. I've ranged from working out 3 days per week all the way up to 7, and I can tell you the only thing working out 7 days per week accomplished was me being sore, tired, and injured all the time. I was doing 6 hours per week of lifting and 10 to 15 hours of cardio, and it was miserable. I was in great physical condition, but it was no way to live (for someone who is not a professional athlete) and not something I could have done for a long period of time.
I have settled into working out 4 to 5 days a week, depending on how my body feels. I always do 3 days of heavy lifting and at least 1 day for HIIT, sometimes 2, and I do a deload week every 6 to 8 weeks, in which I cut out the HIIT completely and cut back on the lifting. On my rest days (typically Saturday and Sundays, and sometimes Thursdays if I don't do an extra HIIT session), I don't "work out," as in intentional exercise, though I might do a lot of walking or hiking, just as a result of whatever activities I had planned for those days.
I think people develop a badass superhero complex when it comes to taking rest days. You convince yourself that it's weak, and you give yourself a hard time about not burning the extra calories, but everybody has to pay the piper at some point. If you go balls to the wall every day for a certain amount of time, you're going to find yourself worrying about a lot more than a rest day.
I don't really do calorie cycling. It's just easier for me to eat roughly the same amount every day. I eat a lot of protein every day, so I don't worry too much about the recovery aspect of eating more on training days.0 -
I was the same way. I worked out 7 days a week. Now that I lift, I need to take a rest day. I usually do some light cardio on my rest day.0

Sunday is always a rest day for me. That doesn't mean I just sit on my *kitten*...though sometimes I do...but I don't do any type of vigorous exercise. Usually I just take the boys to the zoo or something for a couple hours of slow walking and family time...maybe a recreational bike ride down by the river...stuff like that. But sometimes, I do literally sit on my *kitten* all day and drink beer.0

Completely unnecessary...your calorie goal has a deficit of 500-1000 calories per day built in already. You don't have to stay under anything...that's the reason they call it a goal. A goal is something to be achieved.0 -
The training plans I do are quite high intensity full body workouts so I only go 3 days a week to the gym and my trainer said I should do it 3 times a week with a rest day inbetween. My rest days are Monday , Tuesday , Thursday and sometimes Saturday but I'm going to add swimming in for that day since my other workout would be too hard the next day.0
