Best sweet syrup

Hi

I can cut down my saturated fat ok but struggle with refined sugar. I'm addicted to Nature Valley bars, Nakd bars and Alpro soya chocolate desserts!

As I'm trying to up my protein too, I've been making my own bars to replace these, for example tonight I mixed up some porridge oats, natural peanut butter, dried apricots, orange juice, olive oil and agave syrup.

I've read good things about agave (low GI) and not so good, that it's still refined. When I have plain soya yoghurt I also like a squirt of this.

Any advice on the most natural way to sweeten things up, especially bars? I tasted the above recipe before adding the agave and felt it needed a kick even with the orange juice and apricots! Thanks in advance.

Maybe try cinnamon, or vanilla essences they taste sweet without the esugar.

Getting a good quality agave is fine, at least in my opinion. If you aren't vegan, try to find local honey. Not the kind in the bear, lol it tends to have sugar, corn syrup and stuff added. Pure extracts are also a great way to sweeten! Spices too. Making homemade snacks is great! You can control what goes in. :)

Honey does it for me most of the time. After that I would go for maple syrup, golden syrup or treacle

I've started making my own bars. Date based, and those are sweet, but not too sweet. Actually quite delicious. If I needed more sweetner, or was making something else.... I would use honey, or agave depending on the consistency I needed.
