Can I maintain on 1400 calories?

I'm pretty short (5 ft 3 in) so I was wondering if I would be able to maintain my current weight on 1400? I'm completely sedentary. Also I'm 109 pounds

Sure since you're BMR is 1340. Of course that means you can only sit on the couch and switch channels. Any extra walking around and you'll have to up your calories.
As you age though, that BMR will reduce.

There's a researcher at UCSF doing a long term study on the impact of an ultra low calorie diet (1400 calories) and the impact it has on longevity. The current hypothesis is that it will increase life span.

I've seen her before on campus there, she's built like a willow.

Try it. Check your scale after a few weeks. Adjust.
