Hi everyone!

We have been invited out for a Thai meal tonight which will be lovely.

So should I cut back massively on calories for the day so that tonight really isnt so bad? Should I write the day off and not worry too much about calories tonight? I don't want to lose momentum if you see what I mean....

Your ideas, advice, experience gratefully received :-)

I understand your dilemma. It's hard to even guess at the calorie count of a restaurant meal sometimes. Some people have talked about having one day a week be a free day (a non-counting day), so that you can go out to dinner and relax. It's good for the psyche and may even be good for keeping the pleateaus at bay, I've heard. I think if I were you I'd make it a non-counting day and just try to stay in tune with only eating till satisfied and not overly full.

I would have a really light lunch and also try to get a gym session or some exercise in if you can, minimise the damage! But really, just enjoy! You are not "on a diet" you are making a lifestyle change, and so long as that lifestyle is mainly healthy it doesn't matter. It becomes a chore if you start denying yourself things or feel bad about eating something nice! Have a great evening

    Hi,

I have a cheat meal every Thursday. Usually what I do is have a 183 cal breakfast (porridge) and then a 122-130 lunch (soup or salad), which means I can enjoy my evening meal without worrying. Even though it's a cheat meal, I still usually look on the net to see what my best option would be, and try not to have a starter or dessert. But if I do have a dessert, like I did yesterday, I just don't finish it. And to make sure I don't feel guilty today I'm just having porridge and salad again. Then a normal dinner. This works for me every week. I have been doing it for a while now and it hasn't affected my 2lbs weekly weight loss. I also have another trick of cuttting my daily calorie intake by 100, which automatically gives me an extra 700 cals if needed. But if I do use them it's usually on Sundays after my weigh in. So I have the option of 2 cheat days if I want, and usually just knowing that I have the extra cals if I want them, stops me from wanting them!! I don't know if anyone else is the same but if I don't have many cals left I just want to eat everything!!!

I workout extra the next day so I don't feel as bad and the extra workout keeps reminding me that although it may be nice to have a naughty meal it should come at a price so it doesn't start happening every day

i had the same dilemma a week into my diet, my birthday and we went out for pizza, i was frantic all day, that was almost a month ago.
my advice is that you should relax and enjoy it tomorrows another day, as long as it's a one off thing and not repeated too often it's ok.

Thai isn't really that bad you just need to watch the sodium. Days when I go to a restraunt where I can not find the calories on line I usually make sure to exercise that day and find the closest thing in the database and leave 100-200 calories extra for the day as a buffer (not going below 1200).
