I am in the process of getting ready for a physical fitness test for Law Enforcement. It requires me to bench press 90% of my body weight, run a mile and half, do push ups, sit ups, and have a flexiabilty test. Will p90x help me get ready for this or am I better off just going to the gym and working on these areas?

  • P90X will definitely get you in shape for the pushups, sit ups and strength. The program has a yoga video and also a stretching video that I have no doubt will get you ready for the flexibility test. As far as the run, the cardio is very limited as to all the workouts are done in your living room. I love running so I always add that in each day on my own. I would definitely recommend it. I am on Week 4 and can already see such a difference. It's amazing!

I know a bunch of LEOs and a number of them also do Cross Fit. Since you'll have to hop fences and all that jazz for the academy, etc. CF is psycho with some of that stuff. :) Good luck!

I can't comment on the P90X, though. I've heard (and seen) positive comments. I think the plyometrics will benefit you.

Thank you both for getting back to me. I am really considering trying it, I think it could work really well.

p90x can do all the things you want it to aside from the running stamina...that is a different type of fit that you need to just go out and run to get

I would almost guarantee you will get the results you are looking for with p90x. Not completely sure about benching 90% of your body wt, but if you push yourself for the 90 days, the mile and a half will be a breeze. Plyo alone will accomplish that. If you are really worried about the cardio, just get insanity and do the first 30 days and that will definitely get you in shape. I have completed 2 rounds and am on week 11 of my 3rd round, but could not tell you what I can bench press. The program works the entire body including flexibility and core work.
