I am perplexed & needs your thoughts, suggestions etc.
Proudly I can say that I am "growing out" of a lot of my clothes. I have lost nearly 2 sizes which is fantastic. I. AM. HAPPY. My problem is getting rid of them. I need to go thru everything & get it into a goodwill box but there is a part of me that's a little scared. Scared that, what if I go backwards I won't have anything to wear. I know this sounds ridiculous & why would I even think that way but unfortunately I have failed at weightloss in the past. I am on a great streak & feel confident that I will continue to push forward but just wondering. So, Please tell me - do you immediately get those clothes out of the closet or do you hang on to them for a while?

I have had this cross my mind, too. For me, getting rid of them is just extra reason to keep the weight off. I tend to wait a little longer...mostly out of lack of time to go through everything, but when I get rid of something, that's my personal promise to never have to re-buy it again.
Congrats on your weight loss so far!!0 -
Hey doll,..
First of all... don't think about failing, because it isn't an option for you anymore. I think because of all your past failures w/ weight loss, it should only make you work harder. When I lost my first 60 lbs, I was so so so excited to get rid of my "fat" clothes. And so I did. And just as she mentioned above, it gives you nothing to wear just incase you would to put on a little extra weight. Don't let it come to that. Say good bye and good riddance to those clothes, kiss that size good bye, because you'll work hard to never get that size again. Good luck! I have faith in you!0 -
I think we are ALL afraid of this...unless we have money readily available to use on repurchasing clothes. I say keep a few of your favorites and give away the rest.
As you lose more, they will also serve as a reminder of how big you were when you started!0 -
i personally once i make it to my goal will throw all my clothes that i no longer fit into... except for like 1 pair of my biggest jeans as a reminder of why i should keep going n stay healthy! ....it must go kinda thing as a part of a fresh you! new clothes mean new beginnings dont think that you'll ever go back to that size again be positive n buy new clothes because if they get tight than you know you need to work harder to be where you were....0

My vote is to get rid of them! Out with the old and in with the new!! Buy yourself something new and smaller as motivation to get into it:) Besides, with your new lifestyle change, you'll never need those larger sizes again!! Congrats on the weight loss....Great work!0

You know... when I went through Weight Watchers the first time (which I'm not doing now due to $$$$) they told us that as we got smaller we should get rid of all our "large clothes." The theory was that keeping them in the closet "just in case" would give us all reason to slack off and gain weight back. Having a mindset similar to yourself, I decided to ignore this advice, kept all my "fat clothes" for a rainy day (or a bad few months) and woe and behold, I gained. Without realising it, I always felt secure that my safety net was there, hanging at the back in case I ever needed them again. I'm not going to say that was the only reason I gained weight back but because it was always there in my sub conscious, I never felt worried if I piled on the pounds again. Had I thrown stuff out staraight away I might have immedately corrected my bad behaviours and not gained the weight back.
I would strongly recommend you resist the urges to hold onto clothes. Clothes can be bought again but you want to give yourself no reason to go back. You sound so positive and you're doing so well. Let that confidence guide you. If you've made changes to your lifestyle that is resulting in weight loss, you're onto a good thing.
It's amazing how our psyche can control so much of how we think and act. Much like making the right choice of what to eat (instead of giving in to temptation and habit), you just need to trust that getting rid of these clothes is a good decision because you will never need them again!!!!!0 -
Go watch a few episodes of What Not to Wear for inspiration.. Dress for your 'now' body, in a way that makes you feel good. Don't worry about the size, it's just a number! If you own something you can't wear or it doesn't make you feel beautiful, toss it. TOSS IT, TOSS IT, TOSS IT!0

I never actually manage to keep the lost weight off til I loose the bigger clothes.
I would say you should go through all you clothes pick out the stuff you comfortable fit into and put those in your wardrobe. The rest devide into stuff your scared of chucking and stuff you don't care about, give the stuff you don't care about to the charity shop and the stuff you still like store away in the loft or somewhere which is not eay to get to. When your wardrobe clothes feel like they are getting tight you have to step it up a gear to keep the weight from coming back.
If you still haven't touched these stored items in 6 months then you'll probably never need them again. )
I let these gone favourites be a reminder of how far I've come and if I regain weight then I threw away my beloved jeans for nothing. Broke my heart to throw away the last pair, had been through a lot in those, my safety jeans!!
But they are gone and I'm glad I don't need them now, I'm now so slim they wouldn't fit at all!! )
Chucking out clothes is all part of your commitment to a new you. xxx0 -
Well... that's that! Everything you said makes perfect sense to me. Project #1 for tomorrow - pack up the clothes & off to someone who can use them. Its a win win all the way around! As suggested I AM definately going to hang onto a pair of jeans for a reminder of days long gone.
Thanks guys!0
