I noticed yesterday during my run that my heart rate was higher than normal. I'm currently suffering through middle ear issues because of my allergies. Is it normal to have a higher rate while sick?

Yes, especially if you're taking any type of decongestant or if you are dehydrated.0

Yes--in fact there have been some occasions where my HRM told me I was getting sick before I felt any symptoms.0

This is so true. Your body starts "reving" up processes to fight infection, injury etc. resulting in a higher heart rate. That's why knowing your resting heart rate can be useful. If you find your resting heart rate has increased it could be a sign of impending illness, or over-training etc.0 -
Good information. Thanks.0

For diabetics, you're blood sugar levels will also be higher a day or so before you get symptoms of a cold.0
