I have 100 pounds to lose and I am trying to wrap my brain around what I should be doing for exercise to give me the most fat loss.. I am in the process of getting the equipment to do the Stronglifts 5x5 program which I understand is done 3 days a week, but I need help figuring out a cardio schedule. How often should I do it, should I do it on the same days I lift and how long should it last. Currently I average 3 days a week of brisk 2-3 mile walk on the treadmill.
Any input is greatly appreciated.

I enjoy running, so I run every other day and do Stronglifts 5x5 on the off days. I take one rest day per week.
If it is easier for you to do cardio on the same days you lift, then by all means. Optimizing the timing and ratio of cardio:strength is an endless area of study, so what is most important is simply that you do them both.
The strength training will increase your proportional lean body mass which will increase your resting metabolic activity, increasing the number of calories you burn at rest, and the cardio will help you burn significantly more fat while you are actively exercising but without the long trailing increase of resting rate.0 -
