I'd like to start adding protein to my diet, but I don't know how to start. I got a whey protein, is that good? How do I know what kind is best for me? I have trouble with bloating often. What can I do to naturally correct this problem.
I am lactose intolerant so a lot of the snacks most people enjoy (yogurt, cottage cheese) I can't have. I try to get creative with meals and snacks, but end up eating the same ol same. ugh! Help me folks
Tks

Whey is from milk, if you are lactose intolerant, won't that irritate your digestive system? I may be totally wrong.. but I don't think I would use it if I was lactose intolerant.
You can buy soy protein supplements.0 -
Have you tried adding nuts?
Fish?
Eggs? Hard boiled, they make a great snack!
Steak?0 -
Best is "natural" protein -- ie: eat foods rich in it. Beef, chicken, fish. Some nuts. Soy.0

Someone beat me to it, but I was going to say whey is from milk? You may looking in to rice protein or soy powder powders. Add and extra chicken breast, almonds or some other nut.0

I was going to say the same thing.. Whey is milk protein - You need to do Soy or Vegetable protein. And a warning that the vege protein shakes are nasty. As you swallow it, just say "its just fuel"... blah! Why can't you just eat chicken, beef or fish?0

Okay, so I did a quick google search and there are whey supplements that are lactose free..hopefully you bought one of those.0

Beef jerkey and pork Rhinds...both high in sodium however0

Lactose is the sugar found in cow's milk; whey is one of the proteins. They are not the same thing. Just because you don't tolerate lactose (due to a deficiency of the lactase enzyme), that has nothing to do with whey protein. There are folks who have true allergies to the proteins in cow's milk, but that is a much rarer event than lactose intolerance. She should be fine, as long as lactose isn't a source of calories in her protein. Also, most folks who are lactose intolerant aren't "allergic" to lactose; they just don't have enough of the lactase enzyme in their intestinal brush border to break down lactose. In fact, they can usually tolerate small quantities of milk products, as long as they don't over do it (i.e. overwhelm the lactase enzyme.)0

tk u! I didn't know that about the whey protein. I think i may just stick to the protein in meat. What I am truely looking for is something to curb my appetite and thought shakes would help. honestly I have no idea what Im doin. Last time I lost weight I just ate smaller portions and work out like a mad-woman. I carry my weight in my core and cant seem to get rid of it this time :noway:0

Protein shakes are very filling, in my opinion. Although you will want to check the calcium level on your nutrition label if you are lactose intolerant.0

I eat lentils. Tons of lentils, in soups, and cooked with vegetables (butternut squash is my favorite). They have loads of protein.0 -
Most of my protein comes from chicken, turkey, pork, beef, eggs, or dairy...but since you can't have dairy, the first 5 choices should work. I average 130+ grams of protein per day, mainly from these sources.
As far as bloating, protein has never done that to me. Carbs or sodium has, though. I don't limit carbs because I don't believe in restricting food groups unless there is a real medical reason (such as you being lactose intolerant), and I have found that as long as I am eating a balanced diet that doesn't have these wild fluctuations (where one day I have a ton more carbs than other days) then I don't have an issue and don't even notice any bloating issues.0 -
I'm lactose intolerant but I use Optimim Nutrition Whey Isolate protein powder. I've been fine on that.0
