I already do! 64 in the am- early afternoon before work and another 64 in the afternoon - evening during work :-) sometimes even a couple extra glasses if I'm feeling it. Lol

When I saw the title of this thread I thought it was referring to the Gallon of Milk a Day (GOMAD) Diet.

You're supposed to drink half of your body weight in ounces a day. For some people 128 oz isnt that far away. Though if this person only weighs 120lbs they should be careful. You can potentially die from over drinking water. I had a friend who drank so much water, she diluted her blood and ended up in the hospital for several weeks.

^This. I drink about 7-11 glasses a day and my pee is clear 95% of the time so that's good for me.

I get that water is important. Hydration is important. I try to drink as much as possible. But if you aren't thirsty and you are already peeing every 15 minutes, WHY??? Why keep drinking?

A gallon in the UK is 8 pints x 20 fl.oz = 160 fluid ounces, approx 4.8 litres. That's a lot of water. I usually drink about half of that in water and black tea plus more water when I'm exercising. I wouldn't get through the night without a visit to the bathroom if I drank a gallon

I average 64-96 oz a day, and spent much oh it in the bathroom. Our bodies are pretty smart, if we listen, it can tell us when we are doing something wrong. It depends on your body and your lifestyle would be my guess.

I have a liter water bottle that I carry around with me and I probably fill it between 4 & 7 times in a 24 hour period. Ie I drink between 4 and 7L most days.

However, before I get told off, its also 38 degrees (100) where I live and we get no rain ever. So it is always hot and dry. Also if I go to the gym I sweat buckets and need to replace this fluid!

Dear me that's alot of water!

I drink anywhere between 2 to 2.5 liters a day. And my pee is clear, that's enough for me. In the summer time when I worked with kids and was outside in 100+ heat, I would get down 3 liters a day.

Too much water is BAD for you!

Why? Drinking excess water is likely flushing out water-soluble vitamins and creating a sodium imbalance.

Too much water is as harmful as not enough. You can drown your body. 8 glasses a day is too much if you eat right. Come on people. Use common sense.
Common sense isn't as common as some folks might think.

The "must drink 8 glasses of water" thing has been pretty thoroughly debunked around here as a specific necessity to health - particularly the mindset that no other liquids count toward that goal. That said, if you're not feeling adverse effects from it, drinking that much water is not exactly the worst thing you can do to your body. Just try not to go overboard; drinking too much water can, in fact, be fatal.

I'm 114 and I drink about 8-10 liters a day. I think it's best to just listen to your body. If you're thirsty then drink. If you drank too much water and you feel sick then stop.

    ^^^ This

Why do gimmicky stuff with your body? A person's need for water can vary greatly due to body size, climate, physical activity, genetics, etc. There is no rule that applies to everyone. Just make water your primary beverage, and drink when your are thirsty (if you are engaging in physical activity in the heat, drink before you are thirsty.).

If you overdo water consumption you run the risk of peeing away your water soluble vitamins.

When I was pregnant, both times, that is what the doctor ordered. I still do drink a gallon a day if I feel the need. I do not think drinking more than that is okay though.

As the result of millions of years of evolution we have by now developed the ability to keep ourselves hydrated under almost all circumstances through our sense of thirst. If you are having to force yourself to consume fluids, peeing every 15 minutes or having colourless urine you are overdoing it. Under extreme conditions monitoring your fluid intake is important but for most it's not necessary. Our kidneys are wonderful things but they are not perfect and we do lose small amounts of some nutrients in urine.

Kidneys can filter around 30 ozs of liquid in an hour give or take several ozs. Beyond this water starts swelling cells including those in brain which causes the deaths. Space out your drinking and you will be fine.

HALF YOUR BODY WEIGHT IN OUNCES PEOPLE! 8, 8 OZ. GLASSES ONLY IS RELEVENT TO PEOPLE WHO ARE 128 LBS. Keep your body happy. You are not going to flush out too many vitamins if you are eating properly. Intense exercise may require an electrolyte drink, but this would be intense exercise in an hot enviroment. This would be one electrolyte drink ( coconut water is great!) To every 6 glasses of water. Unless you are not consuming enough salt, or potassium you should be fine. Look for signs. Of headaches, fatiuge, weakness, nausea. These are indications of electrolyte imbalance.
