Can we talk about squat racks?

I tried to do a search for what I was looking for and I couldn't find anything that answered my question. I would love to buy a squat rack but I can't afford much. I have seen some racks that come in 2 pieces, like this...

...that aren't to bad of a price. Are racks like this any good? Is 1 piece better to have than the 2 piece? I don't have a lot of space so I need something that can be put aside when I'm done with it. Looking for any and all info/advice regarding squat racks :)

The squat racks are for curls.

I'd be terrified to use one in 2 pieces like that at home by myself. I something went wrong you will be in a world of hurt.

Look on craigs list or locally for stuff. I'd go for the typical cage one. Safety first if no one else is going to come pull a barbell off your neck.

Have you looked up wall mounted squat racks?

Ya, I don't really have anywhere to mount a rack unfortunately. I've been looking for a used 1 but haven't Lund one yet :(

    What about something like this...

yeah, those squat stands are perfectly fine. biggest issue might be if you are re-racking them 'in a hurry', it's possible they could tilt backwards. so be careful with that. but those stands are better the the type i usually see, where there is no rail to set the weight on if you fail mid-rep. the added benefit of them being split is that you might be able to move the stands to help you on some other exercise, like if you were benching alone.

edited to add: obv the full squat rack is better than the stands, assuming you have the cash and the room

Have you searched Craig'slist? I saw a squat rack with adjustable catches, an adjustable bench and a 250 lb weight set all for $340.

2 piece are more portable, less stable. I used squat stands for a while.

Dedicated squat racks might not have the safeties at the right height.

Then I bought a Rogue R-3 power rack. A power rack is definitely the way to go.

If you don't want to bolt it down, then my recommendation would be the Body Solid Power Line PPR200X
Runs about $375 on amazon. Self standing. You can use it for rack pulls, benching, squatting, OHP, and pullups!

It's just about the least expensive option.

I'm in Canada so amazon.ca doesn't have things like that and the U.S. site does't ship here...not to mention it would cost a fortune. Kijiji is more popular than Craigslist where I am and I've been looking but haven't had much luck yet :(

The US site does ship a lot of things to Canada. I order from them all of the time. It might not hurt to give it a try. There are a few items and sellers though that don't ship to Canada. I hope this helps!

I am sure the 2 piece will be fine. If you were a giant guy squatting 500 for reps then maybe not, but for a lady squatting 150 they should fit the bill fine. For reference I recently sold a cage with a bench and 600lbs of weight for $550 on CL.

I'd get a cage for bench and squats.

Ya, squat racks aren't 1 of them.
