Running Bug - when did you get bit?

Just ran my first organized race (a 5k) since December 2011 (1/2 Marathon). As i was running today, I was thinking about my first 5k, which was April 2010 and how when i finished it, I was thinking, this sucks, why do people do this for fun, etc... well I continued running anyways and ended up really getting into it (good shoes, garmin watch, lots of races) Even though I didn't love my first 5k, I think finishing it was when the "running bug" bit me... so when did you get bit by the bug?

(I took the beginning portion of 2012 off from organized runs b/c I was getting married and going on a honeymoon, then I got pregnant and tired/lazy and that's why I didn't do any organized runs in 2012) I ran probably 12-15 organized races in 2011 from 5k to 1/2 marathons (3)).

I started running after getting married, when I did my first race for life 5k in 30 mins I knew I had the bug!

Injured foot so taking a break but itching to get back out.

I started because I decided i wanted to do a 5k. I thought it was mind numbing & boring before. I found out I needed a little motivation. For me Zombies Run! has made running fun for the first time. I like that the app makes it into a game.

I did learn that you can go from running once a week to 5-6 days a week with no build up. I thought my knees were going to divorce me. I've scaled it back to 3 days a week. I'm looking for a 2nd race now. I'm more interested in mud runs but I can't find someone who is willing to train with me or just run with me. My husband travels for work so he can only train with me during the summer months and winter.

I started because I want to Race for Life and am just about to finish C25K. Some days, I've just trudged through, but this week after being outside in the tracks in the nearby valleys and forestry, hardly seeing a soul, feeling free and the impact it's had on my mood has got me hooked. I was REALLY down a few days ago and used that to fuel my run, the difference in me afterwards was fantastic. I felt GREAT and my mood was like night/day.

I feel the bug had bit me as I crossed the finnish line of my first 5k. I was commited throughout my c25k training, but only as a means to an end. I was doig it so I wouldn't embarass myself for my first 5k, which is what I was using as a tool to loose weight. I was happy seeing improvements and gains while doing c25k, but it was more due to knowing I probably wasn't going to fail at the 5k. As soon as I finnished the 5k, saw that I smashed my original goal time, and felt the overwhelming sense of pride and accomplishment, I knew I wanted more.

I have stepped up my training. I have started doing more and more reading about running. I also am running because I enjoy running, not because it's a task that will help me loose weight.

I started running last April just because my friends were and I was doing zero exercise. Since then I've ran 2 5ks, 3 half marathons and a full marathon. I have another half next Sunday.
While I enjoyed running I didn't consider myself to have the running bug until this year. Before I could go several days without running and not care. I even took nov-jan completely off. Now I get crabby if I go more than a day without a run.
