Planning a Birthday Party

I'm planning my daughter's first birthday party, and realized what a change I've made mentally in the past 5 weeks, since I started on MFP. Yes, there will be cake and cookies, but I was writing down all the things I wanted to have for our guests to eat and I really wanted a big ol' fruit salad with the desserts, and a huge veggie tray, and totally nixed the chips and dips - just not interested in it at all! Grilled chicken, pasta salad, green salad... real food, and a lot of it good for you food!

I can guarantee you that if the ME of 2 months ago were planning this party, there would be giant bowls of doritos and kettle chips, no fruit or salad.

Go for chips and salsa, your guests might be a bit put out if they are no chips, but you can buy organic salsa and Garden Of Eatin' makes no salt blue corn chips to go with it and you can "trick" your guests into eating healthier. Or buy organic baked tortills or make your own. Great job on the progress!!!

Awesome!!! We did the same thing for our boy's birthdays - one in March and one in April - we had fruit salad, veggie trays, turkey sloppy joe - with whole wheat buns, and subway party subs - went over very well and didn't kill the calories for the day. We still had cake and ice cream but we ordered smaller cakes than we usually do so we wouldn't have the left over cake staring at us, it worked really well - just enough cake to go around and no tempting left overs to eat!

Oooh - good idea about chips and salsa. But I'll put them in the beer/wine area, so I forget about them (I don't drink) and don't end up standing over the tortilla chip bowl and munching!

Oh - edited to say that it's my daughter's 1st birthday, so most of the people there are going to be adults, hence, the beer and wine... the party will be more bbq style than kid's birthday style. Didn't want to seem all lushy or anything! :)

Isn't it simply amazing how our minds can change in such a short time to match what our bodies are doing. Lots of great ideas you've come up with, healthy food and like was shared, no crash time later with the old time foods. lol

    Enjoy!

Good for you! And you will enjoy it that much more, not stressing about the junk food. Plus, you know there will be leftovers, so it'll be great having leftovers you won't mind eating.
