Not enough calories

Does anyone ever have this problem? I pick the healthy snacks and eat skinless chicken, veggies and such.
I work out about 6 a suddenly I have all this extra points to use. I know eating late is a recipe of disaster but so is keeping your body in starvation mode. I want a slow weight loss, because I have heart history I am sure I know how to fix it but this was not a problem I expected day one to day seven. Not using enough of my calories until its too late has left me with hard choices. Do i eat 300 calories so close to bed? I guess I should move my work outs earlier so I know exactly how many calories I am going to get to add, but I like the ease with having the wife home from work so she can help prevent distractions from the kids. Does anyone on here do their work outs in the evenings and how do you plan accordingly to you food plan

Its midnight here and I just did a quick 17 min work out because I didn't do much today.
Under my calorie goal or not I never eat past 8 pm besides a green tea... but thats just me.0 -
It has been a long since they actually found out that eating close to bed time has no effect whatsoever on weight loss/ weight gain. If you eat right before bed of course you will have food in your intestines that might show on the scale if you haven't pooped yet but it isn't fat that you have gained because you ate too close to bed time.
Your metabolism doesn't slow down during sleep, only digestion -> Very different things! Digestion fires up again the moment you start moving again. Many people notice that the have to go to the bathroom after starting their daily exercise.
Eating meat and veggies is good, but eating some whole wheat garlic bread to get those last calories in is not what is going to make you gain. The body actually needs carbs to burn fat. Here is a small article, I could give you many: http://ezinearticles.com/?Carbs---Why-You-Need-Them-to-Burn-Fat&id=957607
Eating too little is very likely to make you gain. You have to remember that the body wasn't designed to lose weight, it was designed to keep you alive and losing weight goes against that system.
Again eating times makes no difference. It has been a long time since they took this back. It has also been more than 15 years since they found out that it is actually better for you to eat a little something just before going swimming.
Metabolism doesn't slow down only digestion and that fires up again the moment you wake up.
To some people it just might be a good idea not to eat too late, because you are more likely to crave sugary things, because you re low on energy in the evening and the body therefore sends signals to eat stuff that can produce fast energy.0 -
If your food is pretty right, and your not hungry, perhaps something like a class of milk or some type of fats/protein calories as a bedtime snack. Cheese is supposed to be good. You can also eat more the next day. The body isn't on the clock like we think. I am often hungry the day after a big workout day. Today is a good example. I ate and felt hungry, because yesterday I was running around and not able to stop and eat when I normally would. So I made sure to eat today.0

I totally eat after 8pm. In fact I try to save extra calories for the evening so I can have an extra snack if I feel like it (some days I don't and I don't eat enough either, oh well, still losing).
It's a myth that you shouldn't eat before bedtime. Plus by now you should have a good idea of how many calories you're going to burn with your workouts, so it shouldn't be a problem.0 -
I'd say a high protein low carb snack is best vs high carb and sugar0

Thanks for all the info a lot of new info to look into. I agree I will eventually will know how many calories I will burn, but I did baby step on the treadmill. I get dizzy fits and the first week it seemed like I could go longer and faster each day. As of right now I am still progressing. From a 25 minute mile to spending an hour and getting 3 hours. Yesterday I did 3 miles in about 45 minutes and than a 5 minute warm down. Every time I climb on the treadmill I surprise myself and am always left with plenty to spend at night it is nice to know eating late is an option. Next question I guess is it better to work out in the morning, or night.0

I have experienced this. I have been eating the least than my whole family including my 3 year old. Yet was gaining weight. I turned to this because I thought I needed to eat less and track them. Too my surprise I am eating more. Sticking to my plan0 -
Same issue because I work out too much. I run for a hour and do random work out (legs, abs, arm etc.) everyday.0

Just side note concerning the eating after 8pm. I had been doing it for months and it has never been a taboo for me and so far I had no issues in goal weight maintenance. I even had days that I ate 1000 or more calories about less than two hours before going to bed.0
