Heart rate too high?

I've been doing lots of research on heart rate and what range I should stay in. I'm getting mixed information and its confusing. I'm 25 years old and my resting heart rate is about 80bpm. I just started using a polar heart rate monitor today and I feel maybe I'm pushing myself too hard because my maximum heart rate was 180bpm and it may have went higher but I rested so it would come down. And all I was doing was 12 minutes of squats. Any helpful tips for me? Thank you!
