i'm recovering from eating disorders....and i'm really lost. whenever i eat just a couple of hundred calories more, like 300-400 calories extra (no i'm not under calculating), my upper arm will increase in size. i know this is really an "eating disorder" thing to do, but i take my fingers to wrap around my arms, and most days they touch, but on days i eat extra 3 to 400 calories they don't. i'm really really confused. am i gaining weight? :frown:

HOWEVER, I am ready to put that aside and start gaining some MUSCLE weight. :ohwell: i want to go back to a healthy BMI, so that i can my period back (lost than for more than 1 year now). but i don't want to put on fat. i know i will definitely gain some fat, but i don't want all of the weight i gain to be fats. (am i confusing you all? LOL) :ohwell:

i am afraid to eat more calories.:indifferent: right now i'm eating a few hundred, anywhere from 400-800 a day. and i exercise away 400-600. i know this is EXTREMELY bad for me, but at the same time i'm trying to eat more and lifting weights and drinking my protein shakes and stuff.

last thing, is it still possible for me to get abs?:ohwell: i thought you'd had to lose body fat to make your abs show? so i suppose my bf% is not low enough and i'm just one of those skinny fat people? LOL. sometimes you can see the "lines" down my tummy, but that's only under certain lighting and at certain times, and my belly do jiggle a little when i walk )):

my main goal is to be healthy and gain muscle :) i'm just a teen who had enough of Anorexia and want to be happy :)

this is a picture of me currently, (before dinner):

Seek professional help if your not and if you are, continue........your not out of the woods, in the least. You probably need to eat 3 times the amount you currently are to gain muscle, and with your current consumption, your muscle will continue to be used as energy which actually increases your body fat percentage while losing weight........basically your sabotaging yourself and in your current state without help, this will continue indefinitely until more serious health issue arise.

You'll gain a bit of fat whether you like it or not, It's part of the "bulking" process.

You can always minimize that by eating very lean protein and food. Keep in mind that you still need a minimum of fat in your diet (Olive oil, nuts, avocados, fish oil, omega 3+.. )

But the more muscly you'll gain at the end of your bulking period, the faster you'll get through the cutting phase (Losing the fat after the bulking phase). And you keep going for as long as you want or once you've achieve a desired physique. I don't know how long women should bulk but for men, we tend to bulk around september till march - april then we start cutting for the summer.

No, abs does not show up even if you have a low BF%. You need to work to get them, at the end of the day, abs are muscles. If you don't work them, they'll never develop.

Good luck and keep it up.

Refeeding after extended under eating and malnutrition can be extremely dangerous. If at all possible, seek professional help.

It's awesome that you are ready to get healthy but probably nobody on this site is qualified to provide you with the help you need.

This explains the dangers of refeeding. Again, if at all possible, seek professional help. Only someone qualified can help you safely start refeeding.

Please seek professional help. At the rate you're eating now, you won't gain any muscle. And right now, it should be about eating more to fuel your body, not to gain any particular type of weight.
