Metabolic Health

Hi all,

Have been on this site for about 12 months. My goal is to lose another 9kg, no real time frame in mind- just slow & steady till it happens. I normally eat around my BMR of 1450 cal (sometimes over, sometimes under by a few), macros are set to 40:30:30 and I eat back my exercise calories when I work out (2-5 times a week depending on my work load).

I've recently been diagnosed with Crohn's Disease & am currently in hospital after a particularly bad flare up. My Dr has had me on a clear liquid diet since Thursday night (it's now Monday morning in Australia). I'd be lucky to net 400 cal a day but I am bed bound. My question is, can metabolic damage happen after three or four days of eating like this? Or is it only after long periods of time that this will occur? Is this going to set back my progress when I start eating normally again? I have read a squillion posts about how your body clings to fat when it goes into starvation mode. Anyone have any info about metabolic health they'd like to share? Links would be great.. I'm trying to pass the time till my final round of tests in 6 hrs. After that I I can go back to eating normally.. Can't wait to chew on something again!

You will transition bak into eating properly and your body will respond.

Your overall health should be your main focus, right now. You will needs eat to get your strength back,

I wouldn't worry about a few days. Crohn's disease is not fun at all. I know two people that have it, and their metabolisms seem fine, even though both of them had to go through similar situations that you are in.

I would focus on cooperating with your doctor and then once you are feeling better you can go back to eating more and working out more. In the mean time, just rest up and take care of your insides.

A few days won't make a difference. Actually, fasting for a few days increases metabolic rate. After a certain point (around 72 hours or so) the effects start to reverse.

Really.. I didn't know that! Feeling much better about it all. Although the belly full of food might have something to do with that :)
