Run 30 min per day.. too much?

Hi all,

is there something like too much cardio? As an add on to my strength workout (every other day, about 60 minutes) I'd like to add a bit of cardio on each day. Maybe every other 30-60 minutes of running in the morning and on the other days some classes like Tae Bo, aerobics, whatever.

So.. is this too much? Am I risking some kind of injury by doing so? Will running diminish the possible results of the strength routines?

Thank you for your help :)

Yes, running can diminish the results of your strength routines. But first, tell us a bit about your goals and your diet. Are you trying to add muscle (gain weight)? Get stronger? Be leaner? I scrolled through a week or so of your diary and your cals are all over the place (some days under by 1000, some days over by 1000). Are you trying to gain or lose?

To your question... yes, there is such a thing as too much. But that threshold is different person to person. It depends a lot on genetics, how much food/nutrition your are giving your body, how much sleep you are getting, and the intensity of your workouts.

I run between 35 and 45 min (depending on the day) a day 6 days a week. You might have to build up to it. I won't comment on if it will affect your other training....I don't know about that. But as far as too much, there are a lot of people that run a lot more than what I do.
  • I want to convert fat into muscles :). I don't care so much about my weight, it's more about the measurements.. and my climbing performance. And the latter one depends on the ratio of muscle vs. fat.

Concerning the calories: the last week was a bit.. crazy due to business travels and stuff. I aim for about 1500-2000 kcal. But as I don't want to loose weight, I don't care so much about being carried away by food now and again.
