I cook a lot out of the Hungry Girl cookbooks. 200 recipes under 200 calories is a great book. Do you exercise? You eat your exercise calories too so that gives you more than 1200/day.

Thanks i will try and get that cook book, i exercise 5 times a week for an hr at a time.
  • I have the opposite problem, I can't get in 1200 calories a day. Sounds like the book might be a good suggestion for you!

You're supposed to eat your exercise calories. I personally only eat some of mine. But, if you exercise 1 hour a day & burn 300-400 cals, you can eat half or all of them & that will be easier to stick to.

I find that I have a few calories left over at the end of the day and pretty much get it right to 1200 every day. You can check my food diary if you want - the password is omnomnom

If I have a lunch or dinner that consists only of vegetables, it's usually around 150-200 calories for the whooole meal so if I stuck to just three similar meals a day I would be putting myself in starvation.

Hi--I am new to this as well and these discussion boards have been wonderful. I also have 1200 cal for my day. I use a lot of Cooking Light Recipes and I just bought that Hungry Girl cookbook 200 under 200. It has a lot of great things in it. I have a TON of recipes that I have used. I don't get to exercise every day so I don't always have extra calories to use. If you would like some recipes, I would be happy to send some to you....Send me a message!! Good luck!!!
  • Well I have a Slim Fast for Breakfast then I have a snack, then I have a slim fast for lunch, then I have a snack ..then I have my dinner. It's supposed to be 500 calories .. but I can never get that. I haven't exercised at all since I started losing weight. Just the regular around the house mom stuff. But .. I also had the lapband surgery so I am limited to what I can eat. I do eat though.

I would not call myself vegetarian, but I have recently been eating a lot of Quorn.
It's really tasty (some of it- some tastes like old cardboard) and is very low in calories.
For example, one southern style burger is 119 cals! Add a small veggie medly .. about 40 cals, maybe a bit of salad and a small amount of low fat mayo or somethign and you're looking at about 250 for an entire meal! And it really does fill you up!

The other day I had two Quorn burgers and 119 each, and two pieces of folded up weightwatchers bread at 49 cals each. I folded them over the Quorn to make a Chicken style burger, and added salad and hey presto!
Two chicken burgers with salad for about 350 cals (maybe even less) Lovely jubbly!!!

As the mother of 4, I would love some recipes that my entire family could eat. If anyone has some really good ones they would like to pass on that would be great. I also find that I do much better when I exercise and can eat my burned off calories! It keeps me going and enables me to eat foods that I love but otherwise couldn't because they would be too many calories. I normally burn off approx. 430 calories with running and walking!

Dasha, I would try replacing some of your slimfast 'meals' with hard boiled eggs, veggies, and fruits- they can be really filling! And very low in cals!

I am a 65 year old male with very little exercise. Ride a stationary bike one mile every other day or so....according to how my back is feeling. (old back injury) Walk 1/10 of a mile to mailbox and back.

I started at 395 on February 17, 2010 and now on May 16, I am down to 352 pounds. That is a loss of 43 pounds.

This is just my way to do it. Why get all complicated?

I eat a cup of cereal for breakfast with Splenda and 1/3 cup Soy milk for 145 calories.

Have a snack at about 100 calories.

Lunch is a ham & cheese sandwich on a burger bun for 200 cals.

Another snack for about 150 cals.

Dinner is a frozen dinner for anywhere from 160 to 300 cals and another snack for about 100 to 250 cals.

I try to keep my days calorie intake at 1200 or less and it is USUALLY around 1000 to 1130 per day.
