Just Curious

Ive lost 42 pounds since Jan 1 of this year just by following a 1400-1800 calorie diet. I have went from a size 26/28 to a 22. Ten years ago i went on a crash diet and lost 60 pounds in three months by only eating 800 calories a day. I had to lose 25 more pounds then from where I am now to even fit in a size 22.. Have sizes gotten bigger or what?

Sizes confuse me too. In one store I was told I'm a large and at 5'9" and 140 lbs I definitely wasn't.

Very confusing! Sizing has increased a lot over the years and supposedly it's to increase the sizing so that the consumers feels better about themselves. I don't know if that's true, but I can understand why

Yes, sizes have definitely gotten bigger. There never used to be size 0 or 00 - those were called 2 and 4 (or 4 and 6), so everything has gone up from there.

Sizes are inconsistent across brands and even across collections within a brand. You can pick up two identical pair of jeans and they will fit differently. It certainly would be easier for us if women's clothes were as consistent as men's, although DH tells me that he has the same problem.

    Sizes vary among brands.

I could be a size 2 in True Religion but a size 5 in Lucky's

I def understand that sizes vary by brands but I am wearing the same brand I always have and I just dont understand why the change? If its vanity sizing then thats just dangerous. I thought maybe since I had lost weight more healithy this time that I lost more fat where as before when I was starving I lost alot of muscle tissue. Either way I am happy to be losing and doing it the right way this time. I have noticed in plus size stores now the jeans arent sized like 22/24- that might be called a size 6 or whatever. How ridiculous is that?

Sizes have most definitely changed. When I was in high school (and I graduated in 1985), I weighed 115 pounds and wore a size 5. Today, I'm 30 pounds heavier and wear a size 4. And, back in the late 1990s, I was back down to 115 and wore 2's and 0's. It's all about vanity sizing and marketing, I imagine. If you feel better about yourself because you fit into a smaller size, you're probably going to buy more clothes.

I think sizes have deff changed. But also when you went on a crash diet you lost alot of muscle so your body was still flabby. This time around you have lost more fat, so your body is smaller.

Many brands have vanity sizing, so yes.

Have you been working out and gaining muscle? I weigh in the 170's but wear a size 8. When I was in high school I weighed 127 but wore a size 10. I have a whole lot more muscle today then I did back then.

Your body will hold your weight differently depending how much is fat vs. how much is muscle.

I have the exact same cut and brand of jeans from Lane Bryant -- just different colors/washes. All of them are the same size. One pair falls off of me and has been put away. The next one is pretty loose and almost ready to be taken out of circulation. The other two...fit fine.

I also have the exact same size in a couple of dress pants and they are not just being able to be worn again. I know that we are suppose to base it on the way they feel, but it sure would be nice to be able to say I went down a size!!! :flowerforyou:

Yup. My cousin wears a size 4 in today's sizes and she can barely squeeze into my grandmother's old size 12 dresses.

I also noticed that clothes I buy at Lane Bryant and Avenue are stretchy and I hate it. Im in a 22 now and because of the stretchy even though no place does it say stretchy they are falling off of me.
