canned soup

I always have a hard time knowing how to log canned soup because i don't drink the broth. Today for lunch I had a can of progresso herb chicken and dumpling. I ate all of the chicken, dumplings, and veggies, and dumped the buttery broth down the sink. What I ate is equivalent to about half of the can but I know the nutritional value of what i ate is different than the broth. How do I log this accruately as far as caloric intake goes? The can is 200 calories and about 2 cups, half broth, half chunks.

Since you are eating the real bulky part of the soup, I'd count it as 150 calories...you should be safe with that.

I would measure the broth and find the nutri facts for an equivalent amount of chicken broth, either Swanson's or homemade.

However, by omitting the broth you are losing a good amount of the nutrients that have come from the cooked vegetables. Are you trying to reduce the fat? If so, keep your cans in the fridge. The fat will solidify enough that you can remove it before heating the soup.
