Jumper's Knee

I've been really careful with protecting my joints when exercising since January when I started trying to get healthier. I've got proper running shoes, have had weeks devoted to pool exercise rather than risk shinsplints, been 100% careful with form.
And then I let my guard slip - I went out for a special celebration, had a great time and danced for a very, very long time whilst under the influence of beer. All well and good that night (good calorie burn, for a start). But then, as I started moving around the next day, I realised my knee was a little sore. As was my head, but acetaminophen sorted that out.
Today, I can't extend it properly, it's swollen under the lower part of the kneecap and there's a pain in the back of the knee. I've been told it's simply the consequences of bouncing around like a fool to the band and it should go soon enough.
But, I'm annoyed because I was stupid and didn't think before I acted. My fitness is so much better, my strength, stamina, leg muscles - I was out of breath but recovered in just seconds at the end of the song. it simply didn't occur to me how much weight I was still dropping on my joints with every move. (But I did get asked on a date by someone who seemed impressed by all the dancing, so all is not lost :drinker: )
Anyone else managed to do this to themselves from just one daft night? How long did it take to heal?
And what weight would you expect it to be safer to do normal things like dancing, considering I'm still in the 200s right now, with a final goal of 150?
