Trochanteric tendinitis

Hi folks,
I'd managed to lose over 30 pounds between 2011 and 2012 and had got myself into the habit of getting to the gym five mornings per week (first thing before I went to work) - working up from zero exercise at the beginning. Last October I changed jobs, so it was more difficult to fit in the morning workouts, plus as soon as I switched offices I succumbed to a double whammy of nasty flu viruses so I was firmly knocked off the wagon. Around Christmas time I noticed a pain/stiffness in my hip and a trip to my gp came up with the diagnosis of trochanteric tendinitis. I'm not convinced it's been caused by too much exercise as it didn't set in until after I'd stumbled with the gym programme, but at the moment even a walk down the high street leaves me in discomfort that hangs around for a few days.
Does anyone have suggestions for stretches I can do which will help with the condition, plus exercises, (I prefer the gym to swimming), which won't exacerbate it?
My partner has been out of work for a while and took over the cooking most nights at home, an guessing what was in the evening meal seemed a bit airy-fairy, so my food diary also went for a burton. At the moment I'm stable weight-wise, I'm doing intermittent fasting and that seems to have stemmed the creeping weight gain but I really need to get back with the programme!
Any advice will be gratefully received :-)

I would give your doctor a call and ask him or her to write you an order for physical therapy. Tendonitis can often be helped if the muscles and ligaments around the area are strengthened, but this should only be done under the supervision of a licensed physical therapists. They will show you both stretches and exercises to do that will be very specific for your problem. Most insurances cover some or all of physical therapy. Look in to it, it sounds like it would be of some benefit to you!0
