First post - second time trying out MFP

Hi all,

Last year I joined MFP and was dedicated to it for all of 2 weeks! I went for a weekend away where I did not 'eat well' and then felt too shamed to start again! So this time I though I would introduce myself and not only use the food and weight tracker but also get to grips with the blogs and posts on here.

My husband and I have recently started talking about having kids but at my current weight I wouldn't feel happy getting pregnant as I want to be as healthy as possible during that time. So my goal is to become a healthy weight and a health me.

I am at the heaviest I have been for a long time and was gutted when I had to buy a size 20 trouser the other day. I want to be positive that this time is the time that I finally achieve my weight goals but I can already feel excuses filling my head! Which is why I thought I would introduce myself to you guys. I am hoping that by speaking to people in similar circumstances and understanding my problems that I will keep my motivation up!

Anyway please feel free to add me or message me! Any suggestions with easy meal tips (I am not a very good cook!!) or exercise ideas are welcome!

Thanks!
Hannah

I'm sort of in the same situation. Last August to November I lost 20ish pounds and then stopped short. I am trying to get back to logging on daily and tracking all my food, not just up until dinner then abandon everything and snack all night (my biggest weakness). I never communicated with the community on MFP before either, so maybe if I do I will be held more accountable for my bad eating habits.
  • Welcome! Posting in the MFP communities was the best thing I did! Everybody is supportive and motivating!! Please feel free to add me as a friend if you would like!

Welcome, and here's some unsolicited advice: Set REALISTIC goals when it comes to your diet and exercise and be nice to yourself.

    (1) The absolute priority in the beginning is simply doing better than you have been doing and sticking to it. If you don't walk every day, don't expect to start running 5kms regularly tomorrow. If you've been gorging on chips and hot dogs, don't try to eliminate these entirely, just eat less. Step by step. One day at a time.

    (2) Be strict but reasonable with yourself. You will have bad days, just make sure that they are rare and you follow your routine even if you don't feel like it or are a little sore from DOMS.

    (3) Do take rest days about 1 to 2 times a week. Just don't make it a sit on the couch and binge day.

    (4) Then, as you hit your goals, increase what you demand of yourself. Set your goal here as constant improvement.

    Good luck!

I maintain that the #1 key to success in any long term endeavor is forgiveness of self.
You will stumble and fall. Everyone knows you have to get back up and keep trying. But, most importantly, you must forgive yourself for the mistakes and put them behind you.
We only get to live our lives going forward, and that's probably a good thing.
  • Thanks everyone! It's good to see it is not just me that has felt like this! I will definitely take your tips on board! It has actually already helped me realize that I was not setting realistic goals the first time around! I expected to be doing exercise every day and never touching chips again! But I understand now that doing that is not going to keep me motivated! I can't believe how many responses I had in such a short amount of time - I will definitely be posting on here again as the support is fantastic!
