Hello,
In the last 2 days I have been experiencing pain in my low back. I really did not pay much attention to it until today. It is pretty bad. I have taken acetaminophen twice already. It is a constant dull pain. I am just going to take it easy with my exercise routine for a while. If I do anything it will be some walking on my treadmill for no more than 30 mins and not vigorous. I am really going to have to focus on my nutrition so I don't gain weight. What a bummer!! Any suggestions?

slow, easy stretches. I had the same problem a week or two ago. I laid on my back, bent my knees, and slowly pulled one leg up towards my chest, held it for a couple counts, raised the other leg, held it there, raised both legs at the same time, and repeated. I did that for about 10 minutes 3 times one day. Then, I had my husband give a little massage, which was really just him pushing on the sore spots because it felt soooo good. The next morning, no pain at all! I'm not sure if it was the stretching or the pressure, but try both and hopefully yours will feel better.
I laid off completely of the exercise for the 2 days it hurt and just ate lightly.
I hope you feel better soon!0 -
hey alf,
have you started bellydancing yet? i had chronic back pain until i started dancing. now i have no back pain at all. in addition to the stretching bri suggested, try making really big horizontal circles with hips, keeping you head above your feet, feet hip-width apart. this is a siadii circle, if you're familiar with the term its great for stretching and warming up all those lower back and lower abdominal muscles.
get better soon:flowerforyou:0 -
Thanks gals!! I will definitely try your suggestions. It is really hurting right now... I have not told my husband because knowing him he will say I brought it all upon myself for exercising so much blah blah blah...he is not really supportive of my efforts to lose weight or trying to be healthy. :ohwell: Actually I think bellydancing did it for me  I did a DVD about 2 days ago and that is when I felt the soreness then 2 days into it I knew it was just not a normal soreness....but then I guess I may be wrong. I am also doing strength training and I do use 20lb dumbells when I do deadlifts, squats, etc...so it might have been that as well. I do want to get better quickly because this is no fun at all!!!0

sadly, it could actually be from exercising. One of the spots people tend to neglect when they work out is the muscles in the lower back. The core exercises will help strengthen them. It could just be some weakness with that. It also could be other things, if you start to feel pain or numbness in your hamstrings or outer calf muscles, it could be a pinched nerve or arthritis. If it stays in your back, it's usually just muscular, which is good. Put some heat on it, rest it a day or two and re-evaluate.0

i did throw my back out when i first started dancing, probably because those muscles were so fatigued from being used for the first time ever! please don't stop dancing. it really will help in the long run:flowerforyou:0

Try pilates. It is supposed to strengthen all the core muscles and exercises are chosen in such a way that it should be safe for your body. It helped me.
If my back hurts like after sitting for a long time, the best thing is to lie flat on the floor and stretch.0 -
i have lower back pain due to fused vertebrae in my spine and my physiotherapist sugegsted that when I do the treadmill, to have it on a lsight incline all the time (although i also have bad knees resulting from my back probems so this could have more to do with that). An exercsie that I do is to lay flat on your tummy with your arms in front of you and to slowly raise left leg and right arm together. Hold for a little while, slowly bring back down and then repeat with oppsoite arm and leg. This ahs helped me to strengthen and stretch my back. Hope this helps!0
