Calories burned using a Heart Rate Monitor

Hi! I'm using a HRM, but I'm not entirely sure how to calculate calories burned with that. How do you measure calories with that?

    There should be a function on the device that does it for you. I have a garmin with a HRm and I just go into history and it tells me my average HR and cals burned for the duration.
