Asics shoes....help please.

Beginner runner here in need of some suggestions for shoes. I'm pretty partial to Asics but I'm open to other brands. I live in a small town and am 4 hours away from any specialty running store.
I have a normal to higher arch and a normal width foot. And I'm pretty neutral with pronation. I also strike the ground more on the front of my foot vs the heel. I've noticed my ankles tend to start hurting towards the end of my run. Right now I'm wearing Asics Kahana 5's. They're alright, but if anyone has other suggestions, I'd appreciate it!

I have the Asics model from this year.. the GT 1000's. Ive been suffering from shin splints on my left leg, but I think thats more from the way I run than the sneaker itself.
I love them, super comfy. Rather be in them honestly than most of the shoes I wear. My sister just got the same pair for some upcoming races we are doing.
IDk if this helps, but figure I'd post anyway.
Oh I'm a beginner runner too!0 -

Not 100% sure that I agree with that statement. Shoes are like tires for your feet. If they aren't the appropriate tires for your feet you're going to see an impact. I suffered through shin splints, hip and knee pain from what turned out to be the wrong shoes when I was heavier.
I did my research on the net and found that New Balance were better for a heavier runner, they're also heavier shoes, period. If you can't be professionally fitted, I would try what feels comfortable but at the first sign of issues (pain beyond the norm for a beginner runner) I'd start looking for other shoes. (IMHO)0 -
I've put a lot of miles on my Brooks Ghost 5's and love them! Great shoe for the neutral runner. I just got the Mizuno Wave Precision to start breaking in and so far that one feels just as good as the Brooks.
The Kahana is a trail shoe and I'm not sure what type of pronation this is for but I see words like "support" and wonder if this is right for a neutral runner. I use ASICS Fuji Racers for trail runs and they are great.0 -
I LOVE LOVE LOVE my Asics Gel Nerve 33! They are actually pretty cheap too compared to other types of sneakers (50$ on ebay). I can't wear any other type of running shoe other than Asics. I love them.0

I have Brooks Adrenaline and really love them. Your best bet is to go to a running shoe store (or other reputable shoe store, not just the shoe section of a department store) where they will check your gait and have you try on a few pairs to make sure you have the ones that best suit you. Most of these stores also have a guarantee so that if you're not happy with the shoes, they take responsibility for poor guidance and will let you return or exchange them. You usually have to pay a bit more but it's totally worth it to make sure you have the support you need and that guarantee.0
