Snacks for international travel

I'm taking an overnight flight overseas and was wondering if anyone has suggestions of snacks I can take with me that will be easy to pack, eat on the go and get through security. I try not to eat much processed food. So far on my list is fruit, veggies, dried fruit, and nuts.

If you bring fruit and veggies, make sure you eat them up on the plane. Often, you can't bring produce into another country.0

Good point. Last time I traveled internationally, the only thing I cared about traveling with was candy. The fresh stuff we'll definitely consume. Not sure if dried is an issue (you can bring dried fruits into the US...still trying to see what Portugal's law is).0 -
look into some good jerky maybe home made
also I made a couple almond butter sandwiches last time I went and it worked out great0 -
I bring baggies of dried apricots and almonds on flights, sometimes dark chocolate and granola. You could do homemade protien bars or cookies. A sandwich would be more substantial, just pack it so it won't get squished. Beef jerky would be good. I always bring a large empty bottle to the airport that I fill up at a water fountain once I get past security.0

Here's my take on it. You'll most likely be fed a meal after you are in the air, then you should sleep. You'll wake up about an hour before landing and they will offer a light breakfast.
Why do you need snacks? Do you wake up at home in the middle of the night to eat?
If you feel like you need to bring something, I'd bring some sliced multi-colored peppers and a hard boiled egg for an evening snack, and an Atkins bar or some nuts and a small box of raisins or a piece of fruit for breakfast.
Whatever you bring along, make sure you eat before you land--don't try to take it off the plane. Even dried fruits are not allowed unless they have been commercially processed and are in the original sealed packaging in most countries. Some country won't even allow a teabag to be brought in!0 -

I'll need food for about 5pm - 10:15pm (end of work until flight time) and don't want to rely much on restaurant or convenience store food. We also have a transfer in the morning when we get there so we'll land, have 2hrs in the airport and then another hour flight. I find that the food on airplanes is either kind of gross or totally unhealthy so I'd rather be prepared with my own.
It seems like the food import regulations for personal use are pretty lenient for the EU (2kg of fresh fruits/veggies per person, etc) so as long as I'm not bringing in a ton of stuff, dairy, or meat I'll probably be ok.
ETA: I don't get up in the middle of the night to eat but my significant other does...she has a tough time getting enough calories to keep up with her metabolism and struggles to gain weight.0 -

I love almond butter. This definitely sounds like a good snack to pack0
