Thinking needs to change.....

So often on here there are threads started about being unhappy with weight loss progress. Honestly it should be less about a number you see on a scale and more about BECOMING HEALTHY!! I'm willing to bet my life no one on here went to bed one day weighing 150 pounds and woke up the very next day weighing 250 pounds. Unfortunately it took time to get there and it will take time to get where you want to be. This is a life change not a diet. Diets DO NOT work, eventually they end and more often than not people return to the habits that made them fat in the first place. You have to change the way you are thinking about yourself, your goals and your health. It's a marathon not a sprint. Just some of MY views on changing ME. You don't have to agree but ultimately this is about ME.

1 - I often see people telling others to get to the gym and lift heavy. I have skin allergies that tend to act up when I go to the gym. Either from the cleaners, other peoples soap and lotions, women's makeup, etc. I CHOOSE not to take allergy pills every day for the rest of my life so I avoid situation where I am 99% positive I will have a reaction. Anyone who has ever had hives can understand my point. I choose to work out at home using whatever DVD program I think will help with what I am working on at the moment. This doesn't make my workout less important of effective than anyone else's, it makes it different and what works for me.

2 - 1200 calories a day. Really?! I have no idea how people can function on that little. You can't eat 1200? How did you come to weigh 250 pounds? There are all types of opinions on how to eat. "You must eat clean," "IIFYM is the way to go," "try low carb," etc. There are many ways to control what you eat. Does everything that goes in your mouth have to contain less than 5 ingredients? No. Are they better for you than a box with a bunch of ingredients you can't pronounce? Yes. Are they going to kill you? In moderation, no. The only person that call tell you what works for you is you. Personally, I refuse to give up beer, pizza and hot wings. I just don't eat as much as I did before. It's about self control.

3 - TDEE and BMR. You have to remember with these as your body changes these numbers change as well! Just because your TDEE - 20% is 1500 at the moment, it doesn't mean that is all you get forever. As your body changes size and shape, the amount of fuel changes also.

4 - I see a lot of these kinds of posts... "Does Insanity (or P90X, BodyBeast, TapOut XT, 30DS, etc.) really work like they say it does?" Any of the programs work to the point you are willing to work. If you half *kitten* them, you will get half *kitten* results. You will only get out of any exercise routine what you put in. Your result will be based on what you do, not what someone else did. As for calorie burns, stop guessing and get a HRM! Burns are are about as identical person to person as fingerprints are.

Just keep pushing through. With a little dedication, learning both by reading and by listening to your body, and desire you will get there.

  • I agree 100%!!! I always say "In minus Out = Accumulation"!!

I have all these friends on cleanses, Advocate, gluten free, etc., etc. They might lose for a month and always gain it back. You must know your body for exercise and calories. Example - I do treadmill for exercise as I have tried the elliptical and my butt muscle got bigger - did NOT need that. No one can tell you everything. All these are tips and guidelines.

I can't do the Elliptical either. If it would make my butt bigger I might since that is the only small thing about me! My knees hyper extend and I have spent my life training myself to walk and stand without ever locking my knees. The Elliptical goes against ever muscle lesson I have learned just to walk normal.
