    Hahahha!

When he was too heavy to walk for exercise, they would put him in the bathtub so his fat would float and he could scoot around!!!

Clearly, he didn't get into NROLFD (new rules of lifting for doxies) otherwise he wouldn't have that loose skin!!

Also, his treat now is carrots, which I think is so freaking cute.

Its disgusting that his previous owner let him get that big in the first place but he looks so healthy now! Thanks for sharing :)

Yah, apparently they were elderly and couldn't properly care for him...just fed him to show love. But they did the right thing in giving him up!

How did he not blow up?! I've had some fat foster dogs that I got down to normal size. I'd never thought about dogs having loose skin, but it does go back to normal after a while. None were that overweight though, sweet googley moogley! Great job you did there!

Just want to clarify I'm not his owner, just an adoring fan. The link will take you to a page about how his owner helped him lose the weight!

That boy is lucky someone stepped up to help him. I don't know how the owners could think that was ok. :frown:

    So adorable! WTG Obie!

I have a chiweenie, but she's a picky eater. Skips meals all the time. I had to put meat fat on her food just to get her to eat regularly and gain a little weight. I didn't want to pet a furry bag of bones.

That is actually what I give my labs for treats also... Everytime I try to peel me some carrots they are sitting right there waiting for theirs.

Updating because he successfully went through his excess skin surgery today (it impeded his movement significantly, wasn't a doggy vanity thing :P ) and the little tail sticking out in this pic just does me in!!!

    Awww, adorable.
  • I remember this story when they covered it on the Today Show. Wasn't there a custody issue once Obie became "Famous"? The Shelter he came from wanted to take him back from the foster mom? Was this issue resolved? Can anyone clarify/update? Thanks!

There was an issue! The rescue org tried to claim she was profiting from him and should be forced to give him back to the organization. However she disclosed her financials which clearly demonstrated all donations went to Obie's care. They did end up in legal action and the new owner won and was afforded sole ownership. In my opinion the rescue org never really had a real case, so it resolved relatively quickly.

I definitely think it was the best thing for Obie!
  • That's so great to hear! She obviously always had his best interest at heart. It seemed like a real slimeball move of the Shelter to try and get him back once he became famous. I think they wanted the donations to profit them. Not that donations to the shelter would be a bad thing, it just came off as if they cared more about their shelter than the health of Obie.
