Hi there,
Planning on starting my half marathon training program next week, can anyone recommend any good programs to follow? Any tips or advise? Also how do you get in your weight training on top of the running? I don't want to eat in to my muscles to much doing loads And loads of cardio but I want to conquer the challenge at the same time!
Thanks,
X

It all depends on how far away your race is and how new to running you are? But typical training is 3x a week short run, slightly longer and then a even longer run...
Make your longest runs on the same day your race will be on, also helps to run at same time as race if you can as then you get used to running at that temp.
example week 1:
Mon 3 miles
Wed: 4miles
Sat: 6miles
and then add a mile on each weekday run and 2 miles on longer run0 -
Hi thank you
I don't have a run as such, not yet. I'm looking to do one in perhaps 12 weeks. I'm not knew to running, I can run up to 7-8 miles at around 9min pace. Fastest 3 miles was in 25:07. I just want to challenge myself and put myself through the paces of having a solid training schedule for 12 weeks!0 -
Look at his programs: http://www.halhigdon.com/training/
He has some really good ones
I just my first 1/2 earlier this month. I honestly didn't follow his program perfectly--more of the schedule of long runs. I did a lot of cross training and only did 1-2 runs a week (I know, bad me but life happened and I couldn't get out for runs like I had wanted so I did what I could) and did classes at the gym (step, combat, pump) and HIIT. I ended up with a 1:58 time so I was pleased and happy with my training0 -
I'm following Higdon's novice 2 for my half on the 5th. I definitely feel prepared. I do strength twice a week on non run days. For my first half I followed runners world break 2:30 plan because the course closed in that amount of time. I was prepared for that one too,but it may have been overkill.0

Thank you
That's really helpful. I'm excited and scared all at the same time haha! It's good to know you got a great time even though the plan wasn't followed to a T. Although I would love to get a great time I just think that covering the distance will be such an achievement
If you have any other tips, please share0
