Core Workouts

So i searched what other peoples favorite ab/core workouts were and pretty much planks was in everyones. Question though... how long do you do it for and how often... i know the different variations of planks now i just need to know how long everyone does them for? and how many reps of each... 1min, 3 times or 30 sec. 2 times... etc... thanks in advance guys!

I just posted this in someone's similar thread:
Id say do them 2-3 times a week. Perhaps incorporate a side variant as well. Aim for 2-3 sets. If you don't think you can do a full 60 seconds for each set, progress to it. Do 30 for the first, 45 for the second, 60 for the third, Or, in the alternative, aim for 60 seconds for each one, but go to "failure" (can't maintain good form) after the first one. have a minute or so of rest in between sets. Then do the same for side planks, 2-3 sets for each side. There are tons of plank variants you can look into as well.0 -
If you really want to work on your core, first make sure you are doing a full body workout that utilizes compound lifts. Exercises such as squats and deadlifts, performed without a belt will help. Then work on exercises that isolate your abs and that really use them. Try doing pikes, either using either an ab wheel or from a hanging position on a pull up bar.0

I really noticed my core getting stronger after I incorporated barbell squats, dead lifts and overhead presses. I think planks are a great exercise though. I do 3 regular planks and hold as long as possible with a 10# plate on my back, about 1.5 minutes. Then I switch to side planks with a rotation.0

awesome guys thanks... I am a runner (kind of)... about 3-3.5 miles 4 times a week so everything else is looking and feeling amazing just having a hard time getting rid of that terrible baby belly! mainly just genetics but wanna do all I can to get rid of it! thanks everyone0
