The perils of weight loss

Hi all

So I want to lose more weight. I have an ideal weight of 150lb. This is in my head. Invented.
In fact, my height (5'8.5'') and weight (159lbs) is considered healthy! (BMI 23)
I have muscle definition, I exercise regularly (32 hours week as I cycle to commute) but I want to have less body fat and be 'slim'.
Do I persevere, or accept a reality that my ambitions are to be like a television model and unrealistic and unhealthy?

KM

You probably already look great, but there's nothing wrong with striving for better. Find a diet/exercise regime that works for you, whether it would be doubling your cardio/strength training workouts during the week and burning more than what you eat to lose weight. Go for it! you don't have to settle, you can def change your body, so I say perservere and switch up your efforts so that you can get the results you're looking for. Good luck!

If you want to look slimmer, perhaps start focusing on what's known as "body recomposition." That is, work on gaining muscle and losing only fat, not just "losing weight." This will allow you to get the toned, "slim" look that you want, without as much risk of getting into underweight territory, and without driving yourself mad because the number on the scale isn't moving.

Generally speaking, body recomposition goes cycles through two phases - bulking and cutting.

In the "bulking" phase, you actually strive to gain weight, by eating at a slight surplus and lifting (heavy) weights or other intense strength training. As a woman, you won't actually "bulk", per se (women don't have the testosterone needed to support the big muscles men can build), but you will gain a little weight as you gain muscle. This is a GOOD thing.

In the cutting phase, you then work on losing body fat (and only body fat), by eating at a slight deficit, and strength training with the goal of maintaining muscle (instead of building it).

The net result will be roughly the same weight you are now, give or take a couple of pounds, but a slimmer, more compact looking you. :)
