Indulging

I am trying to lose about 20lbs and I am 144 lbs 5'3. I was wondering, how often do you guys indulge? An when you do indulge, does it matter if you indulge before or after working out? I really am trying to rlose these 20lbs by the end of July. But then again, I wish for a doughnut or an ice cream sandwich. HELP!

I indulge whenever I feel like it, really, I just watch my overall calories and nutrition. Never really thought about the timing, though. I tend to indulge mostly in the evenings because it's after work.

I "indulge" pretty much every day. I eat McDonald's, pizza, Taco Bell, ice cream, etc, whenever I damn well please. I just make sure to fit it into my macros for the day.

I leave room for ice cream almost every single day.

About once a month, I have a huge cheat meal where I go 500-1000 calories over my goal for the day. I think it helps me stay sane.

I work ice cream into my day all the time. As well as anything else I might be craving. If it fits, I eats!

All the time. I just fit it in my calories. But it's usually small portions, and there are some things I just haven't been eating (like fried food).

I work some kind of treat in to my food diary every day. You might just have to pare down on what you consider an indulgence. Or ramp up your exercise. Just plan it out and try to stay within your goals. A true, crazy hugh indulgence like a cheescake factory slice of cheesecake should be only on very special occasions IMO.

What they all said. Eat what you want, just balance it out and make it fit into your day. Life is too short to make something like eating too complicated.

Just leave some room for "junk". For ice cream sandwiches, we buy this brand called Blue Bunny (I think) and they have half sizes-- just an idea for portion control.

This. But one cookie or a mini ice cream cone, no problem.

Ice cream doesn't trigger rebound cravings for me the way a doughnut would, so I don't worry about it so long as it fits within my calorie budget and doesn't throw off my macros by too much. I find that it helps to postpone more "dangerous" indulgences until the day of my next official weigh in, which is Monday. If I want want something like a doughnut on Saturday I promise myself I can have one after my weigh in on Monday, if I still want it. More often than not I don't even think about it on Monday, but if I do, I eat it without guilt or any sense that I'm losing control. That greatly reduces the threat of binging.
