Running with "bad knees"

I have weak ankles and knees and was told to stop jogging and just walk. I really dont get the satisfaction of running when walking and feel sad that Ive been giving this advice. what are your thoughts on running with "weak knees" and any advice to prevent injury would be great

Find exercises that strengthen the muscles around the knees/ankles. That often goes a long way toward helping with pain (especially if "weakness" is the issue). My knees feel much better since I started doing exercises to strengthen them. I also had a bum ankle/lower leg from breaking it almost exactly a year prior to when I started working out again. I had trouble walking properly as recently as the beginning of this year, and now I can run a little.

There's also no shame in walking. At all. But I understand where you're coming from. Prior to my injury, I essentially hated running, but now I appreciate being able to do it at all. I even sort of look forward to it.

tbh if they told you to stop then its for good reason. You may do yourself more harm than good. You can strengthen . Foam rollers are an awesome tool to use. Walking uphill aswell is a good workout

As someone that just watched a workmate go through a knee replacement, my advice would be to listen to your doctors - you really, really don't want to go there.

What about trying a different high intensity activity? Swimming fast laps or boxing maybe?
