I tried for the first time ever a few weeks ago and hurt the tops of my legs. I did too much weight too soon ( I didnt know the bar was weighted) I am really nervous about trying again and getting hurt. I am doing insanity and know adding weights would really help but how do i get past this hang up?

Did you think it was made out of air? Didn't you notice that it wasn't floating when you approached it?

myhusands isnt weihted this one was 45 lbs

Do y'all have to tether it to the rack until you get plates put on it to hold it down? Make sure you keep your windows shut so it doesn't float away. At least if it did float out a window I guess it wouldn't do much damage if it hit a kid or a car or something as it doesn't weigh anything.

The one at home weighs a pound so I added 30 pounds to a 45 pound bar thinking it would be the same

How does 30+1 = 45? Is that the metric system or something or do you live on the moon?

    30 pounds + 10 pound bar (at home) = 40 pounds

    30 pounds + 45 pound bar (at gym) = 75 pounds

This is not a difficult concept. Can we be respectful of somebody who is new and isn't familiar with how to describe things?

She said the bar weighed 1 pound at home....1 pound...only 1 pound!!!!!! I am concerned that so many of you think that 1+30=45, really, I am.

Try a beginner's program. Previous posters have listed several already. I do Strong Lifts 5x5. You start off with just the bar which weighs 45 pounds and add 5 pounds each session. It even has a phone app that will tell you which lifts to do on which day and how much weight to use. Hard to go wrong. It will be easy at first and progressively get harder. Much better than just jumping in with some random amount of weight. I also recommend you read Starting Strength to learn about proper form.
