Hi

I have been doing the 30 day shred with 3kg dumbbells, aswell as doing my own exercises that i have picked up from gym classes and iphone apps.

I was told that i need to start lifting heavy in order to lose these last 13lbs and as much as it hurts after a few reps of 15, i'm wondering if the 3kg are no longer enough.

Any recommendation as to what size dumbbells i should be using for the best results?

The actual weight depends on you and how strong you are. For the shred I am using 2.5 kg and feel it. To make good strength gains, most people recommend 5 reps. So the fifth rep is really hard. I bough a set of 20kg adjustable weights. The heaviest combo in the set is two 10kg. You can add more plates, but there is a limit I guess. I am squating, lunging , and dead lifting with 8kg in each hand. When I can do 12 at a weight, that's when I go up a weight.

You don't need to lift heavy. You just need your workout to be intense. If you find that your dumbbells are too light and you don't have anything heavier, you can do synergistic moves which will REALLY burn fat. You can also minimize rest between moves to up the intensity.
I've never done a workout where I was only required to do five reps. I know many advocate that and may have gotten good results too. I can't speak for them. I can only tell you what has worked for me.
Most weight loss will happen as a result of what you're eating anyway. While exercvise will have an effect on weight loss, it's no where near what some believe it to be, unless you're going to workout 4 - 6 hours a day...

    Good luck!!
