Steak question?

Have to eat out tomorrow, and I might have steak for lunch. I don't really have a chance to eat steak much...I think the last time I have a beef steak was 10 years ago or so. Is New York Sirloin Steak the same as Strip Sirloin Streak? Also in the menu it is said to be 300 gram of New York Sirloin Steak with baked potato and vegetable on the side,does anybody know its estimate calorie for this dish?

    that'd be about 700-1500 calories depending on what you put on the potato and how much of the steak fat you eat.

    A steak that size would be around 725 calories or so if you ate the whole thing. Potato would depend on how big that is and what you put on it...a 300g baked potato is around 280 calories, a 175 g baked potato is about 160 calories. The veggies will depend on type of veg and what they're cooked in (i.e. steamed, sauteed in butter/oil, etc).

    My suggestion...go have some steak and enjoy. I'm doing the same tonight.

    A simple suggestion that was given me was to cut each item on your plate in half then eat one-half of everything, modestly seasoned of course. You may be surprised that you enjoyed the meal and are full from the halves that you have basically cut any calories in half already!

    (Worked for me with pulled pork....my ABSOLUTE favorite food smothered in barbecue sauces.)

    My experience from that place is that they usually serve 4 scoops of baked potato there, the scoop is around the same size of melon scooper and I guess they sautee the veggies in oil/butter. Then again, I never order steak there before, I usually have grilled salmon there but I just want to try something different once in a while. :\

    Ummm... I am sorry if this sounds rude, but why on earth did 10 years pass since the last time you had steak??

  • Hubby and I celebrated our anniversary last night at Texas Roadhouse. I had a 6oz sirloin with a loaded baked potato...it was the delicious rolls that hurt the most!! I went over my calories by 523. If you choose a nice cut of meat and a smaller portion, you'll be fine :)

    You should come over to my father's house for summer vacation, then. I rarely eat meat at home, but when I visit my father - we eat steak almost every day, and buffalo burgers or ostrich sausage when we're not consuming steak. Bless his heart.

    300g steak is 10.5 oz, so 3.33 servings, that is about 550-600 calories. The potato would probably be another 150-250 per cup, depending on what they put in them. Sounds like a good meal. If you don't want to have that many calories you can always ask to substitue the potatoes (oh the horror!!) with veggies.

    My mom is a vegetarian and my family usually opt for grilled chicken or fish because it is cheaper-my family is a cheapskate. ^_^;

    Sirloin has more fat than the strip.

    Have you eaten meat at all in 10 years?

    When I did not eat meat for a while and I re introduced it to my diet, it was like I ate a bowling ball laying on my gut. Not a good experience. So I hope you have eaten red meat and I hope you enjoy your lunch, very much!

    Yes, I do have other type of beef dish sometimes, such as in burger, or in pasta dish, just not the one with huge piece of traditional steak like what I have mention in the first post. :smile:

    Anyway, so far the calories for this that I google in the web are all mixed. However, if the calories can goes up to 1500, the I might have to choose something else to eat tomorrow instead. :ohwell:

    I have steak 2-3 times a week. It's delicious. Be careful with eating steaks at a restaurant though, they're usually covered in salt and steak butter; ask the waiter to cut that s*** out. Usually I make mine at home so I know exactly what I am getting. That's what I'm having for lunch actually, grilled steak and grilled potatoes :smile:

    Did I mention that I LOOOOVE steak...MMmmmmm...:smile::smile:

    Thanks. ^__^ However, generally I have to eat out quite often already, so I'd rather stay safe for this and not blow my calories out in one meal. At a later time then. :ohwell:
