Hi, I am wondering if someone can explain how I can be 5,7 and 123lb and look like my profile pic.. but still feel like I weight 30lb more, feel fat, disgusting and tired all the time? I actually really like this photo of me, which is more than rare, I took it this week, but when I look down, look in the mirror or see photos I see a fat girl? Help?

this sounds like a psychological problem, you say in your profile that you're at uni, I don't know where you live or the situation there (sorry didn't check) but in the UK all universities have counselling services that students can refer themselves to, basically counselling for free. I'd suggest if you're in the UK, or somewhere that universities have a similar service, that you book yourself in. if not, find out if you can get counselling some other way, preferably someone with experience treating body dysmorphic disorder. You're very clearly not fat, you're very lean, and you're not remotely disgusting, so your perception of yourself is way off.0

I know it's all in my head? Like I know I am not fat or disgusting but I "feel" like that? if it makes any sense.... I'm in Australia and my uni offers counseling but only for things directly related to uni... I'm not even sure how to look up where else I could got to talk to someone..0 -

can you access it through your family doctor... what you said does make sense, but I think counselling will help you to get to the root of why you feel like that, and how you can change how you feel about yourself. I'm not familiar with the Australian health service... most places you can pay for private counselling if you can't access it via your usual health services or uni. Even if you can't access any kind of counselling in Australia, there's counsellors in the UK and USA who will do counselling via skype... this would be privately. I had to do that when I lived in Saudi, i.e. seeing a counsellor in the UK via skype, because Saudi has very little in the way of mental health services. (not for body dysmorphic disorder, for something totally different... just using my example to show some of the possibilities). Private counselling isn't always that expensive and some counsellors would be okay with you doing fortnightly counselling if you can't afford weekly, etc. A lot of it is negotiable.0 -

Skype sounds like a good possibility, I will have to look into it. Thank you...0 -
take care and definitely look for a counselor. You mentioned "feeling fat" I am wondering if there are any food intolerance issues that may be contributing to this feeling, if I have interpreted your comment correctly.
good for you for asking for help!:flowerforyou:0 -

Thank you, I have been diagnosed with IBS which certainly contributes to "feeling fat" but even when I am eating well and have no symptoms I still often have the same feeling so I have not directly related "feeling fat" to IBS?0
