Mid Life Crisis Car

So I'm turning 40 this summer and my gift to myself is a new car. My last 3 cars have been Nissan Altima's and I was thinking of a luxury car like a BMW, Lexus, etc.. but now I'm thinking I should buy something fun!

I want to stay under $50k. I looked at a Jeep Wrangler unlimited but that may really be too young for me. Now my focus had changed to a Lexus convertible. I have a few months so I'm sure my mind will change again. I really want a Porsche Boxster but that is out of my price range.

What would your mid life crisis car be?

I think I may be doing it wrong, but my midlife crisis car is a VW bus. I picked it up a couple of years ago.

Subaru WRX STi. New model should be coming out in November, so I'll have to wait a while for my crisis. It'll be an upgrade from my Legacy GT though, so maybe I've just got an ongoing crisis. ;-)

My mid-life crisis toy was a new 1500cc motorcycle!

If you like the Jeep - get the Jeep!
I rented one while on vacation a few years ago and it was a hoot to drive.

Excellent!! You can never go wrong with the classics.

My crisis car is a 1968 Ford Mustang Fastback.

    That's right Bullitt.

Am I the only person here who got a crisis car that has no place in the passing lane? Disturbing. :)

I've got a 350z, but nowhere near crisis age :P I would go for the 370z, full leather interior, the works. Nissans are good cars and I <3 my Z!

First step of course is to avoid the crisis and make rational purchasing decisions. That being said, I was always partial in younger years to Lotus and to Austin Healy 3000. I owned a number of British sports cars but could not afford those. Now I find them to be small, uncomfortable and impractical.
So where to go from here?
I owned a 911 one time, but not sure I want a car so small again and no place for my golf clubs. So I think to answer your question, I will go with something like a Porsche Cayenne. I just like the lines. I hear they are not the best for maintenance, but that may be improving.
There are always Ferraris and Lamborghinis, but the practical reality of those vehicles is not realistic for the most of us.

So, for those of you who like/have the jeep wrangler, how do you handle the top? The top is the main reason I'm shying away from it. The soft top seems like it would take forever to get on and off and I heard it leaks. The hard top you have to store when it's off and then what happens if you're out and it starts to rain?

I guess I have been having a mid life crises since I was 19 years old.
my latest purchase was my 1973 Beetle.
But, I don't really have mid life crises.
I have been 29 for..... 14 years now.

Jeep Wranglers are fantastic. Regardless of your age, I would highly recommend it.
    This is my baby.
